I wanted to provide a further update on my SMC1: I have learned today that if I only select one song, and let it play through, then select a diff single song, and let it play, everything's fine. It's only when you choose a bunch of songs all at one shot that things stop working correctly. That would mean the memory circuit has something wrong with it, correct?

Talk more about when "things stop working correctly."
You select several songs, and then... it.. uh.. doesn't play?
Scans twice and stops? Keeps playing same record? Details.

Hey stranger!

Yeah, it plays the selected list of songs, but once those have cleared out, it doesn't let you pick anymore without powering it down, letting it sit, and then powering it up again.

However, you can pick a single song, it will play, and you can keeping doing the one song at a time thing and it's fine. The problem occurs only when you choose multiple songs all at one time.

The consensus on the yahoo juke forum is the MCU's on its way out.

Okay that's a strange one. The only common thread is that it's ending what I like to call a full "journey" of SCANs, back and forth, filling all selection and then returning to a HOME position (which on SMC is either left or right, older models with TORMAT would only be right side). Maybe the carriage is being halted by the end-of-rack switch but the MPU isn't getting the home signal, so it will never initiate a new SCAN. Just a guess. Several people will gladly sell you the remanufactured MPU.

Thanks for the input, Gary.

I'm trying not to give up on the unit, bc the kids and I love it. I'll post any other updates that may happen with it.

If you are on facebook, the group Phonoland.com (a forum that moved to facebook) has many juke pros. But they mostly know the pre-MPU models. First thing you will be asked is if you have the books for it.
