Smash TV Pleasure Dome "Awesome"

Are you the dude from the auction?

No, I was the one.
Bought the Smash TV, a couple of converted cabinets and those cherry masters for the monitors in them.
The Smash TV was the only reason I went to the auction in the first place but cherry masters for a buck each was hard to pass up :)

Pleasure dome video

After reading this thread I was curious about the pleasure dome. I couldn't find a youtube video of it so I decided to play through the game and record it. Without further delay I present... The pleasure dome....
:)

problem with smash TV and other games of the era are that they are quarter munchers and in an arcade setting you have to pay to play which demands you become a better player and that you will be limited by the amount of quarters/tokens you have. At home with free play there is truly zero challenge unless you impose a limit to the number of credits you use. Simply keep hitting the credit switch and the fire button and you will eventually beat the game. Probably even without trying to do so. I've truly never looked into it but the game would benefit from a limited number of continues option if it does not have one. I own the game and have never beaten it ever. I actually got much further BITD the one day at 7/11 when I dropped $25 in their smash TV. With unlimited continues the motivation is gone.

pretty much any game with a continue option is broken in a home enviroment..

Still, smash tv and total carnage are fun.. They were playing the shit out of them at CAX. too bad jack did not bring his pigskin... maybe next year.

we have a one quarter/one credit rule around here. people break it all the time but its a mindset that keeps the motivation intact for the most part. personally, i havent cheated on that rule in years. right when i got mame i played through a bunch of games and realized pretty quickly that wasnt the way to stay entertained over the long haul.

I love the game. And when my daughter and I play, I start with 10 quarters, and she gets 20 quarters, and we can generally finish the game with a couple left.
When I am hacking away at it, I simply try to beat the high score, which I currently set at 24,000,000+

ON a related note, back before I got my dedicated 25" example, I had a boardset than I ran in a JAMMA cab that had Rev.4 roms. So I bought Rev.8 roms, installed them, but once doing so, the joysticks quit working properly. Never did figure out why that happened..

I love Smash TV! - One of my all time favorite games. I got mine from Exidy via these forums, and later added a TC board with Mike's Jamma switcher. It's THE best two player cooperative game out there, and really encapsulates the ultra-violent/commedy combination that dominated action movies of the 80s/90s (Running Man / True Lies...all that).

I do relate to the folks here who call it a quarter muncher. It really is the supreme continue game. In late levels you're just constantly dying. To keep it interesting in an unlimited credit home setting I think you have to develop your own challenges. I like to try to beat the first screen without firing a shot, and finish the first level without dying. Both of which I can do regularly.

I also push for highest possible score, which is done by playing one player games, but always having the second player on the screen, which increases the number of enemies.

I know I've read that the game developers stated they could finish the game on one quarter. To me it just doesn't seem possible, but who knows.

As I play I'm always thinking:
Kill Purple guys before Green
Never stop firing and never let a bullet hit a wall
Most under-rated power-up = the shoes. I always go for them first.

I love the phrases that occasionally pop up between levels. "Chunks Galore!!"
