Of all the challanges in gaming, I think that might be amongst the most difficult. Has anyone ever accomplished a no death run in Smash TV? I know Ed Boon has claimed to have done it in interviews, but he programmed the game, so he'd obviously know all the tricks. Looking on Youtube, you can find videos of people defeating the bosses without dying, but not a full out run of the entire game. Would it even be possible? I can get through to Mutoid Man in the first stage, but he eventually flattens me ending my run. Has anyone even accomplished this or even come close?

Maybe you're confusing Ed Boon with Mark Turmell? Turmell has claimed to be able to get through the game on one life, which is also one of the reasons for Total Carnage's increased difficulty. Boon wasn't involved with Smash TV, it was developed by Jarvis and Turmell with artwork by Tobias.

I guess it COULD be done, but I really see this game as a quarter-eater and nothing else.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the machine, and I own one, but I hated it in the arcade because it seems to be impossible by design.

You're probably right, I'm likely confusing Boon with Turmell.

Pfft... Getting all the way to the end of that game on $5.00 is tough for me to do!!!! ..lol

How on earth can you get through the "snake round" without getting smoked?? Or never step on a landmine at some point??

I'd buy that for a dollar!!!

There's definitely a video on Youtube of someone getting through the Snake Boss and Scarface without dying. I just can't possibly fathom someone managing to make it through the whole thing without a single death.

That game's difficulty curve is kinda hilarious. IIRC, since it's been a while, the first room is the only sane part of the game. By the second or third room the machine suddenly gets hungry for quarters.

Part of me really doesn't believe Turmell ever pulled a no-death run, without the aid of solid cheat - That game can be a massacre after the first few rooms.

BTW - Are there a lot of Smash TV's still out in the wild? I don't see them as often as most of the Midway games.

I believe him.

I've seen several players, including me, reach the third level without losing a life. After that it's really tough, but it's definitely possible to go through the whole game without losing a life.

I've got a Smash TV and for obvious reasons its set on Free Play. :p

That game is a meatgrinder, no question. I can get past the first level without dying but after that it starts to get dicey. I thought the Pleasure Dome would be more 'exciting' but it is what it is.

This reminds me, I need to get a new bezel overlay for mine.....

I actually just got an overlay made for my Smash TV from Scott Prior at Game Graphix.
The Overlay is awesome.
He cut it to the specs of my control panel as well as cut the holes for the joysticks and the buttons.
$60 is what he charges and it is well worth it!
