While I don't know how far I'll eventually go with this cab, I figured I'd actually document my progress on the clean up of a Smash TV I picked up last week.

Here is a video of it after I got it up and running:

At the bottom is before and after pictures of cleaning the CPO with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. It's trashed and I'll eventually replace it, but for now I was glad to get most of the crap off of it.

Here is a video of me cleaning the CPO, I'll go over it again later as there is still a lot of dirt on it after it dried:

I'm hoping to get to the joysticks this weekend, and then next up will be fixing the damage on the top of the cab, the bottom of the back of the cab, and cutting some new pieces out for the back doors. I also need to get the bezel cleaned and installed at some point too. I then need to get to the other cabs you see in the first video, but there is always another day to start on those!

And nearly 2.5 years later...

Oh well, at least I finally got around to it, bought new grommets for the Wico's last week. Took the first one apart and cleaned it up earlier this week without any issues, then I got to the second one, and the center of the grommet is rusted to the joystick shaft! I soaked it in penetrating lube to see if I can get it off in a bit, but I'm thinking I might be breaking out the dremmel for this one.

It didn't take me long to figure out the penetrating lube wasn't going to do the job, so out came the dremmel. It took quite a few passes to get it to where it broke it half, as I didn't want to cut into the joystick shaft itself. The second half stuck to the shaft even after it was cut, and I had to use a hammel and flathead to chisel it off.

In the last picture the rusty one is the one I just pulled, and the other one I had already cleaned up. The cleaned up one looked like the rusty one when it was pulled.

This is probably the last one of the night, the same joystick(on the right) 10 minutes later using Tighe's joystick cleaning method, just the first 2 steps so far. It needs a bit more sanding as well.

nice stuff! Keep it up! I'm still looking for a good CP for my 25"... about to just scrap the idea and buy a 19" machine and be done with it.

I had to order new springs for these too. Finally found a good place to order, arcadefixit.com, and they came in 2 days. Attached a picture of Contestant 2 that's rebuilt, and it plays great! I shot video of taking one of the Contestant one sticks out and cleaning it up, and hope to get that uploaded tomorrow at some point. I also took a magic eraser to the CPO to clean it up as much as it would allow me.

I hope to have the other sticks back in it tomorrow, and I also have a Total Carnage board on the way too. It should be a fun weekend with this machine.

I want a Smash TV cab so bad. They are really rare around my area. Be nice to put in a double JAMMA switcher with Total Carnage.

Good luck on finding one. I got the one I have and then ran across a 25" version the next week. I haven't looked much since then, but haven't seen one since then either.

Here is the video of pulling out one of the joysticks with a dremel:

And now it's fully back together and all joysticks are working right! I'm glad to finally get that part of it done, and will probably be playing it for a bit before doing anything else to this machine now.

I read somewhere that mikes 2 in 1jamma does not work with smash and total carnage. Not sure of the issue but I believe there is a fix. A bit annoy and as I have mikes. Truth be told I haven't really got it to work properly at all. Should pull it out and try it again.

missing -5v iirc, I think user SmashedTV had gone through the issue and got it fixed from mikes.

Thanks for mentioning this, I looked at a couple of threads on it, and plan to get a switcher in there eventually. For now, I'll just have to swap them manually until I have some money to get a switcher.

Total Carnage was sitting on my doorstep when I got home today. Just installed it a few minutes ago and played my first ever game of it. While not as good as Smash TV, it still seems like a good game in the little bit of it I played.
