So I picked this up this boardset from another member here, listed as working before storage now non-working. I figured maybe it was something simple, got it in the mail today couldn't be happier.

Upon Inspection i saw little to nothing wrong, powered it up, and was greeted by this screen.

Cleaned up the edge connector with an eraser (as per mecha's instructions), pulled one of the chips and didn't see any major corrosion (might pull them all next and hit them with 320 just to be safe), flipped it over and i found a small amount of corrosion on the under side near some factory jumpers. The corrosion looks to be on the legs of a couple of the .25w 0 ohm resistors in between u106 and u105 as well as u89 and u90 (should i be worried about this?)(see "Rust" pic). Other than that i checked all the jumpers and tested the sound board with my working 5.0 boardset and it worked fine. I checked the cpu and graphics chip to make sure they were completely seated, and LED1 on the board comes on as it's suppose to just like my working board).

The last pic shows 2 spots i'm also unsure of. the lower arrow looks like 2 legs have a definite solder bridge made.... and the top arrow looks like some of the traces are coming up a lil (there's also another spot on the board that looks like this), almost like the top layer has started to bubble up.

which leads to another question is u105 and u89 only used for the 5.0 pleasure dome revision? as my non working board is missing these two proms.

Other than the easy stuff i'm at a loss kinda with this for now. Until I can get my hands on some 1/4watt 0ohm axial resistors. As I said I'm very happy with the seller and this has no reflection on him whatsoever.

Anyone have any input to this? had this happen to them before? seen a post somewhere about this that i haven't seen?

that looks like flux, maybe, either that or it's the goo they use to hold the jumper wires in place. all my boards look like they have silicone for that, so idk. I encourage you get a dental pick or a very small flathead out and try scraping at it to see what it is. if it just breaks and flakes off easy, it's flux. in which case, clean it up any way you can. as for the "solder bridges" see if it's actually solder and not something else, soldering iron won't lie to you there. :p

that's all I can think of right now. just for the fuck of it, you know all the little security ICs? there's like 8 of them, try switching them between your good board and the bad one and see if the problem carries. I'm not 100% sure but I think if you have any of those wrong it might not boot up. realistically it should still boot and just intermittent reset, but idk. be extra careful with those, use the really small flathead. don't break them. lol

I just finished up pulling all the game roms and checking the traces that i questioned on the solder side. no broken traces (atleast not where i suspected), and no change after cleaning up the game rom legs. I'm not sure what the stuff on the board that looks like solder is, but it's not solder, as it became clear when i put 90% rubbing alcohol on it (it still wouldn't come off tho).

/shakefist!

I'm kinda thinking it's missing 2 game roms

u89 and 105

here's a pic of mecha's board and it has the chips there (where he doesn't have the pleasure dome rev.)

can anyone confirm this??

first off stop putting your pcbs on bubble wrap!!! I just got 2 boards in the mail. Both arrived DOA. Both were wrapped with bubble wrap. If its white bubble wrap, it very bad...

You do know your missing the sound board...

here is a pic of a smash tv pcb if you have all the chips in the same spot, your fine. The board was used on other games, so some things might not be used on a game..

according to what I have in the MAME Roms they are needed... don't know what chips you need, check with hobbyroms (first place I can think of that can burn them).

that's mecha's board your mentioning is sitting on bubble wrap (he know's it's bad and that's how his came), mine are all on either a large mouse pad or in antistatic bags inside usps flat rate boxes.

yes we both have soundboards and know they are not pictured (i actually have 2 sound boards).

thanks that's the 3rd picture confirming that i'm missing u89 and u105

Seller contacted me after seeing this thread; he looked around his bench area and found the 2 chips and is going to mail them out to me. That's a good seller right there!

This is now 100% working, it was the missing u89 and 105 causing chaos. Thanks everyone who replied :D
