Smash TV 19" studio bezel

Just played through the whole game, christening the new bezel, and put up the 2nd highest score of all time on the game so far. And I did not notice any problems with the cameras.

That bezel is simply uber sweet!

Noticed your glass retention bracket is missing correct?

edit: btw my scores right now suck as i haven't played in forever... but i have been playing robotron :)

it's the L shaped metal bracket that holds the glass onto the machine when the control panel is off. there's 5 screws that hold it on.

Hmm, yeah mine doesn't have that bracket. But when I pull the CP the bezel won't fall out as it sits in a "lip" in the wood similar to many other cabs. Interesting none the less.

Installed mine last night....Love it, although I cant see about 2" on each lower corner unless I stand on a step stool. I tried messing with the screen adjustments to shrink the viewable area..no dice. Not much gameplay goes on in the two lower corners which is good. Will post up pics today.

what took me so long to get this thing installed was I had to hand paint the williams logo on the speaker grill...some tool before me painted over it...arrgg....not easy

on a separate note: anyone know how to get the colors on this monitor to be crisp and bright? I assume it needs capping? Havent done that yet...time to learn I guess

I know it's not a big deal, but I would've definitely bought this bezel if the 2 lower cameras didnt intrude into the playfield, or if they were removed completely and replaced with those continuous border lights. The upper portion that doesn't intrude looks fantastic.

Looks great and thx for the pic upload. I just placed my order last night but didnt realize the lower cameras protruded into the playfield that much...
It may not effect SmashTV so much but I also play Robotron via mike's 2 in 1 and a jamma adapter.

Looks like time for a capkit and flyback.

I can understand the cameras being an issue in robotron but not so much in stv/total carnage as p1 can see under p2's camera and visa versa (and as said not much really goes on down in those corners).

If the cameras were removed it wouldn't look/fit right and wouldn't be anything like it's 19" counterpart.

Broodwich,
What about just removing just the part of the camera (tip) thats within the playfield? I think it'd still look great with just the lower half of the cameras. Is this possible?

Just read through this entire thread from beginning to end. What an awesome idea and amazing art creation by Aioros. It's really a cool contribution that he offered up all of this work the SmashTV crowd. Thanks to Brood and the rest of you guys for providing feedback and measurements, and Rich for the printing.

So okay, I really hate to be critical because so many people contributed here, but I just have to ask: What happened with the cameras?!?!? Having them cover a portion of the playfield seems like a complete deal-breaker for this piece. Maybe its just specific to my play style, but I actually hang out in, and defend those corners when I play; it's like my prime strategy. I can tell by this photo that this bezel would never work for me:

I know you can tell your character is there, but it seems like having him covered would be distracting.

Looking through the various posts by Aioros it looks like the cameras progressed small, which I think was perfect:

…to bigger (this started out with the gold bars, which were removed, but the camera was left bigger, still okay:

…to this, much too large in my opinion:

So finally my question: Does anyone have the high rez, printable file of the early, small cameras version? I'd love to order that one. I also like Tom's idea above of keeping the larger cameras, but removing the big lens piece that covers screen.

Like I said, I feel bad criticizing all of this hard work. I love Smash TV, and think its awesome that this project went on, and that there's a bunch of you guys that are into this game too.

I just re-capped my monitor and am trying to fix a couple issues caused by a bad PS. This has motivated me to get this done ASAP so I can play some SMASH!
Cheers, Jeff

unless your 1 foot taller than the control panel the cameras shouldn't obstruct your view at all. keep in mind you look down at the screen.

Oh really? That's good news. Maybe the perspective is off in the pics. I think I'll have to try out the printing test like you did.

i guess it does cover up maybe .5-1" but it's not that noticeable, the cameras were made that way to closer resemble the 19" bezel.

Hello Aioros - Thank you so much for all of your work on Smash TV. I'm a huge fan of this game and appreciate your efforts.
