My client has hired me to help him locate a Smash T.V. cabinet. I was able to find the 25" cabinet, but without a game because the old operator turned it into a Tekken 3.......pffftt.

The original CP is still there so it has all the holes for mounting, the speaker cover, and pretty decent sideart that was not painted over. The harness might of been a little modified but I need to see what I can work with.

What I need to know if I was to make this thing all original....
-What type of 8-way Joysticks were used in this thing?
-What is the J13 connector on the CPU board used for?
-If the cabinet doesn't have the Piezo speaker, where could I find one?
-If the cabinet doesn't have a compatible volume pot, would a 5K pot suffice?

I may shoot more questions as I go along but I have a good idea of what I need overall.

-wico's
-1 white wire comes off j13 at pin 2 and i'm not sure what it does it says "Motor-On" in the manual
-not sure (don't have my cab yet)
-50k pot w/ shield wire is required. 5k might work but would be loud!

I'm assuming that was the one from Danny's. There have actually been a few lately on Craigslist that are more or less intact that you could probably restore a lot more easily (that's why I never bothered with that one).

Cabinet is not in bad condition from when I looked at it. I got Danny to pull it out, I got him to make an offer on it, shot the offer towards my client and he said lets go for it.

I'm not the one paying for it anyway. Sadly though, nothing on craigslist right now in the Houston area thats within 250 miles. Besides I'd think it would be fun building it from the ground up. I have a working monitor to put in it, a JAMMA harness laying around, and a switching PSU. All we need is the game board, marquee, a CPO, and 4 joysticks.

I have a spare glass marquee to dedicated 25" smash tv..

I also purchased the entire wiring harness to smash tv. I was going to drop it into the cab I deconverted, but it turned out I wwas able to repair the one in the cab..

Yeah. The cab was looking good. I almost bought it to transplant my STV into it. Somebody painted the sides and the bezel black and painted over the Williams logo on the grill.

I'll have to look around. I probably have a spare set of STV boards around. I just need to see if they work or they are Ebay "untested". :D

hey no problem, glad i could answer a few of your questions.

Thanks Broodwich! LoL, though right now I might avoid any leaf like joysticks....too much maintenance. I want my customer to have something with less hassle.

I got an update though. Pretty much darn near everything was there except the marquee, game boards, and monitor. Even still had the CPO under another CPO lol, but we will still have to replace it. The side art cleaned up nicely minus a few small scratches. The original wiring harness and power block are still there, including the 50K volume pot. They drilled through the metal plate for the CPO........... so on top of getting the old CPO off, I got to patch holes.

Anyways, pics so it did happen.

The whole cabinet picture is after I cleaned up for the night and had mounted my monitor in it.

Looks great, definitely salvageable goods there :D

I looked at that cabinet a couple of times too. I ended up getting a Dedicated 19" cab later on. I didn't even look at it close enough to see that it had been changed into a crappy game, I'm glad I didn't go for it.

I'll look at j13 when I get a chance and see where it goes. I probably won't get a chance to look at it until tomorrow morning.

Updates since I finally have internetz again!

Cabinet is nearly finished but is playable! I need to make a sound board power wiring harness, but otherwise it sounds nice with just some hookup wires. The CPO....well the CPO is certainly not a quality remake, the characters are not even to scale, not to mention the material it's printed on. On top of that my customer laid it on a tiny bit crooked. I'm gonna help him on getting something better anyways. (He Bought it)

When I had first gotten this cabinet and loaded up this 25" Wells Gardner I had lying around I had issues. The monitor was working a month ago and was stored at room temperature in my room............but upon powering it up again I had raster lines and no green. So obviously something wrong with the STKs or whatnot, tried jumping them and stuff thinking the solder joints were bad, still no good. I decided to try and swap them with the other color guns, but upon attempting to resolder them the pads broke right off the board................ So that was scrapped and we settled for gutting a useless game from Danny's warehouse "Guardians of the Hood."

Here some not so high quality pictures from my camera phone heh....

My customer doesn't really like the Zippy joysticks I ordered....or to say he doesn't like the feel of microswitch joysticks and would prefer something more towards like say the Wicos, leafed joysticks to be exact. Any suggestions? I just think microswitches would be less maintenance and good Wico's seem to be hard to find...................

Gonna be tough to find 8 way wico leafs on the cheap especially NOS (expect $25-50 each x4), and yes the microswitches would be far more reliable.

Lovely day today, or I mean night. Got off work and headed straight for my customer's place to finish up the audio board wiring harness, put locks in the coin door to keep his daughter's hands out, and to replace the CMOS battery which was losing scores and settings. Given this is like a 35-45 minute drive from my house too.....

Anyways, opened it up and mounted the board and replaced all my jumper wires with a suitable wiring harness. Turned it on, we get a board check saying the Custom chip failed the startup test.....which it had did before but still played anyways....and the video all of a sudden cut out. I take a look in the back and see the LED on the game board is unlit and I was like great, but upon further inspection I find the Switching PSU is dead.... It's getting voltage, but not giving voltage....I didn't have one handy...so yeah.....!

Ordering a new PSU and awaiting a day to go back up there.

seems like this is the month for failing power supplies.

word of advice order your power supply from happ or paradise.
