Dokert made a post recently that re-sparked my interest in this game. I own zero pins at this point and I have always favored vids, but I am pretty fond of this one and there is one about 60 miles from me that I'm interested in. Couple questions:

1) This game seems a little more simplistic than other games when looking at the playfield. Does this mean that there is less that could possibly go wrong or less maintenance involved than there would be with your average pin?

2) It appears to be in okay shape, not good but not horrible. It is missing some graphics on the front panel though: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...42961&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_3299wt_1167
How much is too much for this?

3) (sorry) How impossible is it to get the baseball card dispenser to work? If I owned this, I'd have to get this thing working again.

Thanks for the help, guys/gals

The control panel overlay runs from $49 to $69 + shipping. Just ordered one from Mad Amusements on sale for $49.

The parts for the baseball card dispenser are readily available.

In comparison to the average pin, there is a lot less to fail. Most of the parts that do fail, are also readily available.

The game manual is available from Marco Specialties for $16 + shipping.

Only played it a few times. I think it would be fun if you had it in a large collection of games. Personally, I would go with a pin..

Plus side, it has the topper plastic.
minus side, the front art is gone.

you need to check to make sure the front did not get broken into. but if its fine, all thats missing is some simple graphics.

Its pretty much a pinball machine, but with a lot fewer targets. If the card dispenser does not work, it might be expensive. I think your close enough where you should check it out in person..

As for the price, its at $600, reserve not met with 7 different bidders.. Might go close to $1k.. If it gets to $1k, you could probably buy a nice pin for that.

Damn you're knowledgeable, Dokert. Thanks a bunch. Is the front panel art replaceable or is it painted?

Thanks again, guys.

The topper certainly makes this more attractive than it would be otherwise, but I'm not gonna spend a G on it considering that the front panel needs work and the CPO needs replacement. Part of the reason this pin is appealing to me over others is the smaller size and the relatively low price (don't these usually sell under $1000?).

well, I don't think slugfest is smaller. just shorter. Pretty sure its a full size pin body.

If your looking smaller, then pin 2000($1500-$2500) or safe cracker($3k-$4k?). There also was super mario mushroom world, nudge it and bell ringer, but I would never want one of those.

I've seen several sell lately for $6-700. That one is in no better shape than those I've seen.

This used to be #1 on my wishlist, but now I wonder how bored I would get of it. I have played it again in pinMAME, and that seemed to satisfy my craving. If one fell in my lap for half price 10 minutes from my house, I'd probably get it. Otherwise, it just isn't worth the dedicated space anymore.

SlugFest is about 6" longer than a standard WPC pin...It's definitely NOT smaller and the head doesn't fold down.

The thing is a beast to move

Wow, my memory is really failing me on this one. Whenever I saw one of these, it was always separated from other pins so I guess I could never make an accurate comparison. I honestly thought it was like a foot shorter than the average pin.

I thought they were shorter too, but here's a pic I took last year at a local classic arcade that has one. It's a pic of a whole row of pinball machines, with Slug Fest at the end. You can see it's the same height as The Simpsons pinball next to it, and sticks out a little more on the front.

Yeah, it's kinda deceptive because of the depth in the back. It extends far beyond the playfield I guess. This just ended on ebay in my area about 10 minutes ago. $600 and it didn't meet the reserve. I think I've seen these come up a few times over the last year in my area. I think I'm gonna have to wait a few years. I don't think I have the room for it. That thing's gotta be at least 5ft long.

These are usually in much better condition than that one, but $600 is on the lower side of the price range. It really isn't a pinball machine, it's a modern pitch-n-bat. It's not a pin in the sense that you have at least two flippers and flipper buttons on the side to try to keep the ball in play... it's more like a redemption game. If you like pitch-n-bat games, great. I think they are pretty fun, but a bit one dimensional for a smaller gameroom.

Yeah, I'm not a big enough fan to warrant the inclusion of a true pinball machine in my collection. I've always been into vids, but that pitch-n-bat is a machine that I was always fond of. Yeah, it's more simplistic with less objectives than most pins, but I always found it appealing. I guess being a huge baseball fan has something to do with it.

Honestly I didn't realize how much bigger it was until I moved a couple months ago...the game always sat by itself in the corner at the old place. During the move of 14 or so pins and another 8-10 vids..next to the Star Wars vid..the slugfest got the most complaints =0).

Then at the new place everything was down in the basement folded up against the wall..on their backs with no legs (insert chick joke here). Slugfest and AFM were next to each other..that's when I realize that SF was quite a few inches 'taller' than AFM.

I will say that it's a great party piece. People seem to gravitate to it like Chexx and such. Of my 20 or so games I'd say Slugfest is in the top 3 for play during parties with Chexx and RFM

It's a great novelty pin but as for the gameplay you will probably get bored of it really quickly.

You might be right. Only one way to find out.
