I've been looking at getting a slot machine for home use. I've seen some conflicting information and hope someone can set me straight. Is it ok to have these machines pay out in quarters? If not, then why do I see some machines that will take tokens and quarters? If they take quarters, wouldn't they pay out in quarters? Any info. is appreciated and thanks in advance.

You can have a machine operate on quarters - as long as it's for amusement only. That means it's you game and your quarters. Nobody shows up and puts THEIR quarters in and either loses THEIR money or wins YOUR money. As long as all the money stays there, it's okay.

That being said, each state has different laws about what you can have as far as "gambling" devices in your home, even if you aren't using them for gambling...

slot machine question

Most modern slot machines use a coin comparitor. You slide a coin or token into the acceptor and it will recognize only that coin and reject any others. Quarter size tokens and quarters are very similar in size and are easily switched in the acceptor. Same goes for other coins like nickels would need the same size tokens as the nickels. However finding tokens can be tough they must all be identical. Do not go from .25 to 1.00 or any other denomination change because that gets to expensive to do the modifications needed.

To own a slot machine in Missouri, the machine must be 30 years old or older and classified as an antique.

Thanks and I'm aware of this already.
