Sloppy Star Wars Yoke - suggestions?

Thanks guys!!! I was worried that I had to take it apart to center the gears!

So my yoke is nice and tight with zero slop, but the axis is off center.
How do I center it without using up new parts?

Doesn't the game center for you? All you have to do when you first turn on the game and start up a credit, is move the crosshairs to all 4 corners. That should center it for the duration of the time that the game is turned on.

Correct. I do this every time I power the game on. I'm not sure if it would fix wildly out of center controls though.

Any resolution?

Sorry for the thread resurrection, but I am having a similar problem except mine is with horizontal movement. As I turn the yoke the crosshairs will lag behind for a bit and then jump quickly.

I am going to take it apart and look, I just wanted to see what I should be looking for.

Thanks

Your gears are probably broke, or have loosened up over time. I have to go in from time to time to tighten mine up as well. Just take the top off, and move it aroind while looking at the gears to see if it's just loose, or you have broken teeth.

Gears are broke or just loose. Open it up and check it out!

Gears look intact and move smoothly. I don't see any slipping. I tried to meter out the pots but I couldn't get a steady reading when testing the middle and outer lugs. It is probably my meter as the floating reading was almost as bad on the vertical pot which works fine in gameplay.

Could be dirty pots - spray with deoxit and meter them. The values should move evenly through the whole travel of the pot.

Thanks. I will try this.

One other observation: the stuttering movement is only obvious when moving right to left. I don't really see an issue moving left to right.

I'm not sure whether this is more suggestive of a pot issue or less.
