So, my handlebars on my Paperboy seem to have alot of play in them. I dont mean the controls themselves, but the brackets that the controls bolt to. Nothing is really worn, but the square metal bracket that encases the controls flops around. I was going to drop a few spot welds on that bracket to the cp. Has anyone ever done this before or had similar issues? If you could post a pic of your fix, that would be great. Thanks

I've seen a few where the weld between the top assembly and the bottom have come loose. I believe there was a thread and pictures on BYOAC for one of them.

I've done this repair on 3 sets of handlebars now. I can't seem to find my pics but I think I've posted about the repair here or at byoac. Once you take the panel off it'll be pretty obvious what you need to do. The only thing to be aware of is that you might have to grind some of the weld down to get it to fit back into the panel properly. But just to be clear, you shouldn't weld it "to the cp". You will take the controller off of the cp and then repair the controller itself.

Well, the slop seems to be the controller floating on the cp. Doesnt the two connect somehow to make it so when you push forward or pull back, it doesnt flop around? Im gonna go search for the thread now.

It shares a lot of parts in common with the SW yoke. I remember a long time ago David Adams/Adam Judd/whoever was posting for RAM was saying he was working on making an improved Paperboy controller. I guess China didn't come through for him.

If I ever rebuild mine, I'll look into what SW yoke parts crossover and what's really worn, instead of the kit/shotgun approach.. brass bushings, springs, the gears, etc?

They connect via the 4 bolts. Maybe you just need to tighten your bolts down, but don't weld them together. TheShanMan's description of the problem is the one I've seen more of.

I saw the bolts and they are all tight. I can imagine this controller took some pretty harsh abuse over the years. Ill make and post a vid when I get home today.
BTW, I did a search at BYOAC, and couldnt find the thread.

As a matter of fact, the handlebars in that thread are one of the sets I've repaired. That guy is a local collector friend of mine (NeP on here). And no, you don't weld it to the cp. If you look closely at those pics, you'll see that the controller is removed from the cp. And if you go to page 2, you'll see where I posted pics of my repair. You remove the controller from the cp (it's just 4 carriage bolts) and then proceed as I described.

Yeh, I saw that. My point was if you leave it bolted in, it just looks like its supposed to be welded to the panel. Thanks for the pics!
