Hey guys,

I have a 4 player slikstik control panel and it appears the green balltop joystick isnt glowing anymore. Checked the wiring and also switched the hookup with my other working joysticks and those glow fine...so its definitly the actual stick and not the wiring. Anyone know where I can buy one?? I need a green one.. like in the following http://retroblast.arcadecontrols.com/reviews/slik_lighted.html

thanks!

yea I think you're right..i bought mine in the secondary market. I'm dumb I didnt even look at the joystick yet to see exactly who makes it. Yea I see that paradise has ones that look just like it. Should be able to work with it..thanks for the heads up though!

hmm just realized that although he sells similiar joysticks..the actual shaft appears to be different. The problem is the shaft he sells doesn't have LEDs in them. The balltop I have is clear so the actual color of the LED is inside the shaft itself.

For what it's worth, this should be easily fixable - The balltop on that should unscrew to reveal your green LED being fed up through the shaft. I'd almost take a stab at it being the wiring from the point of the joystick up to your resistor and LED. Hard to think the LED has gone bad but I suppose possible. In any case if you are handy with a soldering gun it would not be too difficult to fix.

not a bad idea. THe wiring is fine all the way up to the connector piece because I used the exact same wiring and tested it with another joystick and it works fine. The actual shaft itself appears to be the issue. I was able to take the balltop off and see the led itself..but not exactly sure what to do from there. Maybe just take the LED out and replace that? Or is there wiring that goes throughout the shaft? I'll take a look at send some pics of it tonight..maybe one of you guys knows what I can do before I go pay for a new joystick haha

Believe it or not, I actually have a slik stik green joystick sitting about 2 foot from the computer I'm typing at at this very minute. I had plans of adding it to a Galaga or Galaga 3. The only hitch is its not exactly the same as the stock sticks they made. I had them make mine with a short throw stick just for the Galaga. So they supposedly modded the shaft length. But when I got it, the shaft was still longer than what I was wanting due to the fact that they supposedly made it for a wooden CP rather than a metal one like I asked for. So its sit there waiting for me to light a fire under my arse and install it. I can't remember exactly what I paid for it when I had it made, but I think it was 75. Of course, knowing those guys, they probably charged me for the custom work and then sold me a standard. But if it was customized shorter, it probably wouldn't match your other sticks. If you think its something you might be interested in, I might sell it as its not exactly what I was wanting. However, it might be a better idea to just repair your stick by unscrewing the jack in the bottom and un-soldering the wires an pulling the ball off the shaft and replacing the LED. That is if the LED isn't small enough to be pulled through the shaft. Just a thought.

hey so the LED is actually working but its very very faint compared to the other bulbs. I was able to pull it out and I see the wiring. I tried the other sticks with the same power cord and they all work..so I know the wiring is definitly not lose. It seems like I can only really pull the LED out a few inches to expose the wiring, and other than that its pretty tucked in there. I'm thinking maybe its just the actual bulb itself that is dieing out? I went online and noticed a ton of different LED bulbs..not sure which i'd need or where to start. Was thinking of bringing it to radioshack to see if I can match it up. I'm afraid to keep pulling the wiring out because I don't want to yank the cord outs and break one of them. Any ideas? I can take a picture of the bulb if someone thinks they'd know which one it is. I figure I can cut the old one and re-solder a new one.

You can still get the same joystick here:

I think I want to try just replacing the LED first. I was able to pull the wiring out enough to see the LED and its leads, but I just don't know what type of LED it is or where to find one like it. Anyone have any ideas? It may end up being the wiring inside of the stick but i'm not sure if I want to pull it out of the shaft. I was only able to pull from the top of the shaft underneath the balltop because the other end where the wiring plugs in doesn't have any area to open. Just a very thin hole for where the wiring from the cabinet plugs into.

thanks
Jason
