But the good news is that other stuff looks pretty nice:

Congrats, that looks like an EXCELLENT candidate for restoration. The playfield looks nice. I restored an F-14 that was rough compared to that.. Study the repair guides.

Sux about the battery damage on the board. Can you get a better pic so we can see the extent of the damage? Leave flash on, set camera to macro mode for close-ups. (little flower icon on most cameras.)

If it's too far gone for repair, you can usually pick up tested working 100% System 11 MPU's for under $200, and you'd be into the game for still about $500-$600 less than it's worth.

Richard

I can try. My camera automatically disables the flash for macro shots. But I can shine a brighter light on it and try again. Crappy cheap camera. I'm hoping it's repairable...I'm thinking some of the components will need to be replaced but I haven't cleaned it up so I can see the trace damage yet.

Well I took so more pics of the before and after clean-up. I'll post them when I get home if anyone is interested. It's hard to tell by looking if the connections are hosed or not. But the repair guide that someotherguy posted a link to earlier has a nice section on how to test the board to find out. It looks tedious but it's very cool that someone took the time to put that together! Thanks for the heads- up on that.

Very nice find! Like mentioned above the habitrail metal ramp is gonna be your most difficult part to find, but always check ebay! The parts will add up quick money wise. As I see you need legs 50-70 bucks there, new board like mentioned another $200, and whatever else you need, you may need a new display score glass and they run over $200 as well if you want an LED display in which you will never have to worry about ever changing that ever. You must get the habitrail ramp or you can't play the game, well I guess you can but.... nice find though-good little project for the winter!

I have the legs...just hadn't put them on yet when the pics were taken. And I'm not sure about the habitraiil ramp...was that not one of the bits in the pic of spare parts? The guys says he might have anything that's missing still...somewhere. I'm also hoping the cpu board will be ok. It cleaned up fairly nice but I have ran checked to be sure the traces are all good yet. But thanks for the kinds words.

To those who have shown an interest in buying it...sit tight for a bit. I'm still trying to decide what I want to do on this guy.

I would have bought it too, with the playfield like it is alone would have made me pull the trigger on it my first visit there, and just take my time putting back together. You paid $240 right? I'am gonna take a look at ebay for stuff for you, its a good source for those hard to get stuff.

Isn't this the mini-playfield you guys are talking about in the pic here that I took? Also, I ended up paying more actually. When I was there he offered it to me at that price as part of a multi-game deal. I bought the other games. But when I returned he said that he couldn't honor that price any more since he was selling it on it's own. I had driven an hour so there wasn't really any saying no at that point. Kind of a jerky move though.

Well I started metering out the board and I'm maybe 1/3 of the way checking it out. So far everything is still giving me proper continuity so PERHAPS the acid damage isn't so bad. There is a bit of corrosion on top of a couple of the chips but I'm thinking it's not deep enough to actually cause problems. We shall see.

But....I've noticed that I'm missing some cables in the back box. So I won't be able to test the thing in any case. Anyone have recommendations on best places to get cables for this thing?

Well, the game appears to live. I haven't run it through all the tests but after cleaning up the board and metering it out all seemed well. So I checked things out and then plugged it in and fired it up. Lights come on, flippers work, slingshots and all that seem to work so hopefully this is going to work out.

I need to read up on how to put it through all the various tests and then go through the lights and then start reassembly. This is one of the more interesting projects I've had lately.

Anyone want to buy fairly nice working Galaga? :)

There's pictures of the game a couple pages back before I put the legs on it. Do you mean working pics? It still has quite a ways to go so it doesn't look much different other than lights being on.

Yes, working pics. I just picked one of these up this past Saturday. The HV on the PS board is out. I ordered some parts so hopefully I can get those in sometime this week to see if anything else is out.

Ok the game powers on and lights up now. Sounds are good. I heard it say "I see you" for the first time while the eyes lit up and shined at me. Pretty cool stuff.

Now....the top 2 displays still aren't working and I noticed that at connector J15 there is a plug plugged into it but it has no cable coming off of it. Completely missing. Could this account for this particular problem? What does that cable go to on the other end? I don't see another empty plug...maybe I'm just missing it though. I'll pull of the photos and see if I can tell.

In any case, where can I buy this cable if I need it?

J15 is a sound plug, not used on PinBot. Pinbot is System 11A and does not use this connector.
