Slight "hiccup" (momentary flicker) on monitor

I have two games - NBA Jam and Ms Pacman - both plugged into the same basic powertap and they're both experiencing an intermittent issue. During play, the monitors on both machines seems to "hiccup" occasionally. That is, the image seems to breathe to a smaller size then immediately back to normal. It's just a second long. There's no artifacting or anything else wrong, just the hiccup. It'll do this occasionally, and when it happens, it occurs about every 20-30 seconds.

I did some searching and found other people with similar problems, but nothing exactly like this. It seems to be a simple issue and once related to power. Since it's happening on both machines, I'm wondering if it's not a power supply thing but perhaps fluctuations in the wall outlet.

I was thinking of getting a better surge protector, one with EMI filtering and the like. Has anyone had a similar issue or got results with a similar solution?

Does it happen on both machines at exactly the same time? if so, then I'd definitely suspect the power input. You can try plugging it into a different outlet to see if that helps. or just stick a meter down there and measure the wall voltage to see if it's jumping when these jumps occur...

BTW - f you have a refrigerator, window ac unit, or something plugged into the same circuit, you may be seeing it whenever the motor or compressor turns on, and it goes away when it turns off...

Good question.

No, it does not happen at the exact same time. It's something I observed happening on both machines individually.

well then, it could be power related still, but I'd check to see if I could measure the voltage to each monitor while this is happening....
