Hello everyone, I have a Slide-It shuffle bowler game that is dead. I believe I have traced the problem to a bad hard drive (it will not show up in my other computers) Does anyone know of a place that I could either get a image of a hard drive, or purchase one?
Thanks
Jamie

bump....really no one has one of these? The vid world is strange, I am used to pinball where parts a plentiful :)

Looks like when I did a search I found your posts on some other forums. You might try something like Knoppix or similar software to pull the info off of the hdd. If nothing else you got a free bump.

Oh, check the settings and power connections on the hdd. You probably have done that. Maybe check with MajorHavoic, he might know someone with that game.

That game used a combination restore diskette and CD. The diskette would
boot to DOS, format the drive and copy the files.

I will check my archives at home but I don't think I have this one.

Any luck anyone? I guess I should be asking for a boot disc/cd for the game. If anyone has this I would happily pay for one (free would be better but beggars cant be choosers :) )

I got a Slide-It arcade off a friend, he said the machine was dead. I goofed with it and came to discover that the 3.6v battery on the mobo had died, which was causing the PC to reset to defaults and when it was booting it was halting on all errors, so no keyboard meant it wouldn't boot. There's two VGA outs on the graphics card, connect a PC monitor to the unused VGA out to see the PC boot screen, you can see if it's halting on the keyboard error. Replace the battery and then go into the bios and set it to ignore all errors. I know this isn't exactly what you were talking about (bad hard drive) but I thought I'd mention it.

The Slide-It has a security dongle that plugs on the back of the PC, I'm not sure if it's linked to the hard drive or the PC or what, but it's definitely matched to something.

I have a spare Slide-It hard drive and security dongle (pulled off a spare computer that came from a demolished Slide-It) somewhere, I'll try and dig it out and see if the hard drive/dongle work on my Slide-It machine.

EDIT - I found the hard drive/dongle, will test it on my Slide It machine. Will also try duping the drive and see if it'll work in my machine, if it will I can just dupe a drive n send it (if I can find the box of spare hard drives).

Does ANYONE have the mythical Slide It 3 game version out there? All I ever see is the two game version (which I and everybody else seems to also have).

Hey wasted, the guy above (VA) is a friend and for some reason cannot login to KLOV right now and respond to your post. PM me and I'll get you his email address. He is interested in the hard drive/dongle combo. Thanks.

After a really crappy last two months (work-related problems) I finally got the Slide-It hard drive and made a CHD of it, then uploaded it to a page. I have absolutely no idea if it'll work on a Slide-It after being extracted to a hard drive, I can't test it in mine because it ended up in storage (no power there).

If anyone wants to download it and try it on their Slide-It machine here's the link, there's a 10GB a day download limit for it for my free account but I don't believe there's going to be a run on demand for the Slide-It CHD. It's 213MB.

I don't expect it to work but there's no harm in trying. I don't know if the security dongle is tied to anything specific on the hard drive, or if it's tied to the PC. Anyone have a guess on which would be most likely?

When I looked at the hard drive it in WinXP it came up as MS_DOS6 and I was able to look at the game data and files. In disk manager it had two 2GB partitions, the first had the game data in it using around 1.2GB of room and the second partion was using zero percent of the 2GB.

If you don't know how to extract it the "how to" is at this link -

Plug a ps-2 keyboard and a secondary monitor into the unit. Replace the CMOS Battery, Hit F-1 when it gets stuck on th eBIOS boot screen. Game plays fine, but what you don't see is the monitor on the cabinet is actually the Secondary display.. any vga monitor hooked up to the extra VGA 15 pin port on the back of the computer, CMOS battery will fix, but F-1 will get you through the boot if you don't mind doin it every time.. I need a manual for this game, it was in pieces when I found it and one of the cables got damaged, anyone have a schematic? Thanks and good luck!

I have two of these machines, one missing computer and dongle. I need a MANUAL!
I am working on making a back up CHD I also copied the files directly for back up.

* I HAVE THE 3 GAME VERSION! (3RD GAME IS "PUCK SOCCER")

I have a website Wonderamaland.com and hope to post the files once I learn and successfully duplicate a drive. I will be making them for CF Cards so keep that in mind.

LETS FIND THAT MANUAL.

FYI:
I also have a hard to find PDF of LazerTron Lot-o-Fun & a Century Vending Paint 'N' Puzzle Manual. Took weeks to track down.

I downloaded your Slide-It ROM learning how to make a CF Card CHD and test. I also have a machine that has all "3" games the 3rd is Puck Soccer.

Do we know anyone that can make some more games for us? How about an angry birds type front view game. Using the arrows to raise and lower the height of the puck hit.

Making one of these ROMS with a 5+ game system would be killer!

I Have the 3 version Slide-It game! I was learning how to backup to CHD when it stoped booting agian, stuck on the LOADING splash screen. I am working on backing up the CHD and then to another drive to see if I have any luck.

SLIDEIT.CHD from downloadable link on this page.. YES IT WORKS! This was my first attempt to transfer a CHD and it worked just fine on my machine. However it is the two game version

I will update if I get the 3 game working, its fun. PUCK SOCCER.
DO WE KNOW ANYONE THAT CAN PROGRAM GAMES FOR THE OTHER SLOTS?

I know I'm digging up an old thread here but I have two Slide It machines, both with dead hard drives. I tried the link to download the HD image but it appears to be no longer available.
Does anyone still have a copy of the image available?
Did anyone ever get the three game image?
Thanks for any help out there, guys.

Are the drives completely, physically dead or just won't boot ?

This is real old school and a long time ago but I restored a machine
using the following:

Installed DOS 6.22 on a new (well, working) drive
Copied files off of bad (not booting but readable) drive

There was a little more like tweaking the autoexec.bat and config.sys files
and I don't remember the details.

The game was always getting corrupted on this machine so I went further
and made a "safe" copy of the game folder on the drive. When the machine
booted it would wipe the main game folder and recopy the good files from the
safe folder. It never failed again.

I must've been really tired the other night.. (I think I may have been trying the same bad hard drive twice)
I have one of the pc units on my desk with two monitors connected and running. One hard drive is dead as a door nail other than making a god awful snapping sound, but the other, seems to be working fine.

I'm going to try to put everything back in the cabinet and see if it works tomorrow. If it all goes well I will copy the hard drive and see if I can get the other unit going. I know they belong together as both machines have no side art on the sides that go together. Do they run independent of each other or do they link together? (just checking) And what kind of puck do these games use?

pcjohn, Thanks for the tip on that hard drive issue, I will keep it in mind if I have any issues similar to yours. And thanks for the response.

Ok just tried the working hard drive in the other pc. It doesn't work. message on screen says

Couldn't detect the SST-1
*** Error***

I'm thinking this may be related to the security dongle.
