Skyrim

Got my copy yesterday. Played for 7 hours straight, didn't want to stop, but it was 2 AM and i have 3 kids and get up at 6 so i needed to get some rest.

And i haven't even completed two quests yet, let alone haven't encountered a Dragon. Wow.

I have been gaming since 1980. Every console since then, i think i've played them all. This may take my personal title as the best ever (Halo, Fallout 3, Age of empires 2, MW2, Drakkan are up there as my favorites).

I note Drakkan - it was a little known title for the PS2 that had you in a somewhat open world fighting dragons - i adored that game and havent seen a fantasy game compare until now.

Too much going on with Skyrim to explain its genius. Here is one - wander up to a tree stump and follow the ants along to their Hole.

ok guys school me.

PS3 or PC? Don't say Xbox I don't have one of those:)

I am leaning towards PS3 only becuase I have the PS3 set up on the HDTV.

I say pc for sure. Or maybe hook your pc up to your HDTV. Vanilla Morrowind and Oblivion are just average games on a console. But having a personalized modded version with some great mods was a 1000x better. And that is why I will not be playing Skyrim until the Creation Kit has been released and the talented modders have had a chance to create some top notch mods.

Hopefully, Francesco will do a mod for Skyrim that was as brilliant as his Francesco's Leveled Items/Creatures mod for Oblivion.(my personal favorite mod for Oblivion.) And even though Skyrim is a beautiful looking game world, hopefully the modders that did the Unique Landscape series for Oblivion will do something similar with Skyrim.

just bought my first house. halfway through thieves guild. I have been robbing everyone blind every night. nothing better.. my sneak is at level 60 and my character is a 18 lol

They fix the issue that was ever present in Oblivion? Where you could be unseen(even indoors with NOBODY else in there) and steal something and get chased down by a guard anyway?

The oddball things with that sort of stuff always pissed me off...

Totally agree. I have played for hours, I have done two quests and there are about 50 other things I can do and I just started. Talk about options. The game is simply amazing.

Yeah I finished act one and got so side tracked its not even funny. Game is simply stunning. Only had one glitch after using a wood block where after I cut the wood I couldn't move. But reloaded a save from two seconds earlier and all was good. Almost done with thieves guild. That's my specialty. Started companions guild and got the invite for the dark brother hood.

I finished the main story and it was pretty epic. Took me 20 hrs and I was level 17. Now I am going back and doing everything else.

Oblivion was a great game, but man its so broken compared to Skyrim! Hands down GOTY

LOL. I was the same way for a while, thinking later on I would need stuff. Nothing is worse than farming! But it seems like there is enough stuff to go around in Skyrim :p

So true. I always used to think, "Why can I pick it up if I won't need it later?" This does backfire sometimes too, I left a pickaxe on the ground and then got to an ore vein and couldn't mine it. :(

Skyrim Promotes Hoarding.

My goal by the way is to buy the place in WhiteRun and fill it with as much crap as i can, including dead animal carcasses, to the point where local town officials have no choice but condemn me.

LOL! I still gotta figure out how to buy a house and do that too!

In Oblivion, I had an abandoned hut that I use to drop all my stolen crap in so the guards wouldn't throw me in jail. Man that game was so freakin' strict!!

houses are easy, but first you need to become the thane in the hold you want the house in, which based on the main quest in whiterun there is a 5000 house you can buy. Talk to the guy at dragonsreach tower, the big place in whiterun. one of the guys in there will tell you its for sale.

How do the companions work? I got the elf guy as a companion. Can they die and what happens if they do? I haven't had any issues with him yet, other than him being slow to catch up to me sometimes.

Companions (not to be confused with the "companion" guild / series of quests that get you werewolf status) are great. I have the elf guy too (from Riverwood).

He follows me everywhere, REALLY feels like a friend along for the missions. Sometimes, he says things in deep dungeons like "i dont like the look of this" before we enter battle.

I found one other Companion - Lydia, you get her from Whiterun if you follow the main quest. I tried her but she was too aggressive for my tastes, charging in ahead of me and "taking" my level up points! I traded back for the elf since he is a natural archer and tends to stay back. I do always make sure the game doesnt "glitch" and lost him, no problems yet, but i hear if he gets stuck somewhere, since he is still alive the game doesnt give you any more companions so make sure he is always around.

Ok - they can die. Get Healing hands magic to restore their health. Fortunately, when taking damage, they stop fighting (kneel in pain) which detracts them from getting hit again keeping them alive. But if he does die, i restart from last save point since i want to keep him around.

You can also use him as a mule - give him loot. Doubles your capacity big time. Finally, you can armor / weapon them anyway you like.

Oh yeah - one other great trick. That guy trains Archery for a price - level up with him on that, and you will see in his inventory your gold (from paying him). Just take it back :)

Can you guys stop talking about this game? I'm jealous and have no way to play it.

!!! Sorry about that.

Of course, i am not aware of your situation, so excuse my suggestion here, and i understand lifes priorities come before a silly game - but, if there is anyway you can swing it - do whatever you can to get a copy - its incredible.
