ok, so i've got this Midway Skins Game PCB that'll boot to the test menu if i put it in EPROM test mode. when i run the hard drive test it tells me there's no hard drive connected. if i run the file system test it tells me "Failure to mount file system / QIO error, EOF on file." if i try to boot the game normally it gives me the same or a very similar error.

i don't hear the HD spinning and i did test the voltages at the end of the HD power cable (+5v and +13v,) so it's not like it's not getting power. and i tested the PCB in two cabs (a dedicated Skins game and a generic JAMMA) and had the same result with both.

anything else i should check before i call this drive dead?

yeah, i had tried a second IDE cable (from another Skins Game PCB even) and got the same result.

looks like a different HD it is. from what i can see on eBay it doesn't look like SG is drive model specific like a lot of the other later Midway HD games. will pretty much anything IDE with enough storage work? how about switching it out for a CF card drive?

Skins has to be a 10.2 gb and not just 10.0 gb? i managed to scrounge up a Quantum 10 gb drive that looks like an almost extact match.

of course, i'd still need a disc image...

edited to add:
i just did a search on the original Quantum part number and it comes up as a 6.4 gb; if that's true then a 10 gb should be plenty of space.

now i'm just short the disc image.
