Well tonight my little boy had a cheap toy light saber and it broke (would no longer light up). I notice a small hair like fiber that was red sticking out of the handle.

Turns out that was what connected one end of the battery to the bulb, popped it apart replaced with a better wire and soldered it back up and bam we were back having lightsaber fights.

Basically before klov i woulda just chucked it as garbage (really prolly just made due with a lightless lightsaber) but now from some skills i have learned here the force was with us tonight...which i think is pretty cool.

i got a dead lcd monitor from my dad.. it would turn on for a second and then turn off.. he just bought a new one and i took the old one.. i bought some transistors etc (per the online repair sites) and fixed the monitor for about $3. i didnt get all of teh replacement parts ( i should ve).. but then i just got a new powersupply for $25.. still not bad for a 17" lcd..

now i just need to find a few 42" tvs with the same problem.. cheap! :)

I learned how to fix stuff long ago as we were poor when I grew up.
I fix lots of things for my kid.
Two days ago I fixed the mechanism inside Auric The Conceror as he didn't lock up to become the statue and then you can't lock him and open him up with the key.

Took it appart and found what was broken and made a new conection via a screw so that the mechanism that locks with the springs was in place and could move.

He's very happy as his Auric works again.

Yeah, I found myself a couple of weeks back tearing apart a vcr looking for bad solder joints and such. lol

definitely more confident with all electronics, and I have a decent idea of how I should go through the process of diagnosing and fixing a problem.

Been meaning to pull apart the ancient boom box I have to see if I can't fix one of the switches on it that's been tempermental for a while. It's lasted probably 20 years and no reason with a quick fix to that switch that it can't be in great working order for another 20. That I could even think about pulling it apart and replacing/repairing the switch is thanks to this hobby. :)
