Found these at a collectibles store that we were at over the weekend.

I think they were priced too high, but I am not into skee ball. Thought it would be cool to have but would prefer the classic style.

They were asking $1995 and $2199. The units were from Hersheypark, and have beed refurbished and are in working order.

You are right that is too much for those. 1000 and below is a fair price for a working (not shopped out) Skee Ball model H or S. Keep your eyes open, they often pop up but you have to be quick to score one cheap.

1 - those are NOT model H or S. They are closer to the Ice Ball models sold by I.C.E.

2 - Retail prices do NOT match craiglist prices. - My boss has sold 10' Model S and 13' Model H for $2500+ at least 10 different times in the past 2 years.

3 - With the explosion of Skeeball leagues popping up all over the country, prices for "classis" Skeeballs are a lot higher than they used to be, and the ones with the 100-pt holes are especially desirable. Unfortunately, these are the 1000-10000 pt scoring ones, so they won't be sought after as much for the leagues.

4 - I now hate Skeeball and wish they'd all die a horrible death...

I've been warned that the lightnings can be tough to keep running, any truth to that rumor? I have only Model S and they are amazingly reliable. For all the abuse that the kids deal out to them they take it and just keep going.

With some of the leagues going to Beerball machines due to maintenance issues there should be more of the H and S models available those prices are a bit high. I was in a league and did all the upkeep on the machines they went with the Beerball's because they didn't have someone to maintain the games in the cities they expanded to.

Lightning vs. Classic?

Guess I got in at the right time, I have both a 'classic' lane and a 'lightning' lane and the most I spent on either was $600.

As to the 'lightning' model being more difficult to keep running, I have not really noticed any difference between the two as far as maintenance issues. My 'lightning' unit is one of the earlier production runs and still has the microswitches for scoring, so the later units that went to optical sensors might be more touchy but having not worked on any of those in recent memory I can't really say.
