Got a buddy with a "six gun saloon" made by coin concepts. It's a laser style rifle game where you shoot cans ( targets ) and such from a few feet away. Problem is it can only register hits when the gun is very close. Anyone have any info on this piece at all?

here's a link to a flyer about the game:

I guess this game is rarer than I thought, if no one here knows anything about it.

Oh well, I guess I'll have to go do some old fashioned trouble shooting!! I'm heading down there in a few minutes.

I have never seen this game in particular but if it works close I would check to make sure everything is clean (gun and cans), you have good power to the light, and that all of the connections are secure (no cold solder joints, frayed wires, etc.).

Is it possible that the cable to the gun is in a different position when you are close to the cans and that is why it appears to only work close up?

This particular game works by shooting a red laser beam at what look like cad. cells mounted on the cans. They basically drop to 0 ohms when the beam hits and the signal is processed through some 324 op amps configured as comparators. In this case the red laser light in the gun was weak.
I grabbed a laser pointer that was used to tease the cat and rewired it with a resistor to operate on 5v instead of 3.6v and modified an area 51 gun housing to hold it. Rewired it internally to flash the beam at the right time while still sending the trigger closure signal to the board and bingo the game is working as it should.
