Sinistar to Golden Axe: I don't think I need a dedicated isolation transformer?

I mounted the Frankenstein's Monster of a CRT into the cabinet. I managed to repair a K7000 and replaced the tube with an Orion. I am planning on keeping the original Williams transformer/power wiring assembly that I found in the machine (which is from a Motorace USA) and removing the Williams power supply board, which I am replacing with a Peter Chou SMPS that was also in the cabinet. If I'm reading the schematic correctly this transformer already has an isolation winding in it and I won't need a second independent isolation transformer.

I'm pretty sure I am reading it right, but I am going to ask to be sure because high voltage AC scares the poop out of me.

I'm also going to remove the connections from the transformer that were used to power the Power Supply Board as it is no longer needed, just to keep this neat.

Any suggestions or advice?

You are turning a Sinistar into a Golden Ace?
that's kind of where I'm at lol

@Jaak you won't get a warm response with this project, but to answer your question, that is a multi tap isolation transformer. that Peter Chou power supply is from the cretaceous period, I would not use it.

if you have the original Sinistar parts and the cabinet hasn't been ripped up for the conversion yet you might be better off selling it as a Sinistar project and using the proceeds to get another cabinet.

I love Golden Axe. I'd never butcher a Sinistar to make one though. Golden Axe should be in a dynamo. I'm sure several people will trade for this Sinistar if that's an option.

yeah that's exactly what I'm saying. lol

I also don't love Golden Axe. I should sample Death Adder sometime to see if it's better though.

The cabinet was a Sinistar, then there is evidence it was converted at a 1942, then the crt was junked and replaced with an lcd, then it broke down and was abdondoned in an outdoor environment with only a roof over it and left to rot. The only thing worth saving from the original Sinistar is the power board. Even the special joystick is gone. I've even had to replace water damaged and rotted sections of wood. If I had any other source for a cabinet I would not have spent the silly amount of time and effort repairing this one.

The way I see it is that I'm giving a the cabinet a second lease on life by trying to get Golden Axe to run in it, especially with a crt.

I get it. Do what you can to keep it running!

I took apart the Chou power supply and saw some of the caps were bulged, so I replaced them all with overkill quality caps. It's amazing how thirty years of progress makes everything smaller allowing me to fit the same physical size caps with much better values. The power supply now tests rock solid and stable.
