I have a Sinistar cockpit, and this long string of letters and numbers has been coming up on the main screen. The game plays fine, but it's kind of weird that this is going on, and I am wondering what it might be and how to get rid of it. Any thoughts?

Give this a shot...

SETTING ATTRACT MODE MESSAGE
1. Position cursor on SET ATTRACT MODE MESSAGE.
2. Push FIRE button.
3. Depress ADVANCE.
4. Enter up to two lines of your message following
instructions on the screen
5. Depress ADVANCE to terminate process.
To restore the Williams attract mode message, perform
steps 1 through 3 and then turn the game OFF and back
ON.

it's CMOS corruption. take out the batteries, wait about 10 minutes, turn the game on. you'll get the factory settings restored message then. now go into the settings screen and manually reset factory settings, bookkeeping totals, and high score table. (enter settings by pressing the Advance button, and using Advance to cycle between the screens)

now wait for the operator message screen to come up, it should just be ---------- now. if not, repeat the factory restore procedure I mentioned a few times. once that's wiped out, power the game off and put the batteries back in.

you'll have to factory restore once more then. it's a stupid process, but there was some kind of issue with how Sinistar's code handles the CMOS. it happens to it the most of all the games I guess.

Thanks for the help. I will try those things now.

Regarding the batteries, mecha, this actually happened after the NVRAM was put on the board. Do you think I should unplug the NVRAM?
