I have been posting this in the wrong section(s), I think, so I figured I would try it here.

I recently got a Sinistar cockpit as a project so that I could learn more about fixing games. I'm lucky that some great KLOVers nearby are helping me out. I do have one or two questions I wanted to ask about here still.

The "hood" of the cockpit lifts up, but the lift supports from back in the early '80s are totally shot. I picked up a pair of lift supports that are 14 lbs. of pressure each, but I'm thinking that might still be too much pressure. Any thoughts on what I should use to replace the lift supports, and where to get them?

Second, and this could be a bigger problem affecting the answer to the question above, the wood is split on the right side of the cabinet, just below where the lift support attaches onto the hood. It seems like any excess pressure on the hood then pushes the wood on the cabinet up into the T-molding. I tried to show it in the attached picture. (The horizontal wood is just under the hood, which is up in the picture, and I show what a little extra pressure does to the wood on the side.) Any thoughts on how to fix that, other than be sure not to put excess pressure on the hood, which I would like to avoid anyway?

Thanks for the help, and please let me know if any of this is not clear.

maybe more of a restoration section thing.

I just fixed MXV's Sinistar cockpit over a week ago with bad struts -- I had to fix multiple boards (cause that's my way) and we wound up unbolting the hood off.

1/4" screws for the strut brackets, then 7/16" for the carriage bolts.

Thanks. I posted it in the restoration section too.

Real quick, while here though: If I did want to replace the struts, any sense of what you would use?

Thanks again.
