Simpsons restoration

I don't think that MameMarquees has a bunch of these all ready printed. Since they are inkjet, I think he prints them off one at a time. Show him the pics and send him some measurements and see if he can get the scale a little closer to original.

Also on that reprint, notice how high up Matt Groenig's signature is compared to the original. It's been shrunk, but it still looks good.

Exactly. It does look good, but if I can get it scaled a bit closer, I'd like to try. :) Looks like Scott is out of town until after Labor Day so I'll have to wait to contact him.

Loving this so far. I actually had to join the board and stop lurking because this is such a great job. I'm a fanatic for 4 player Konami games, and own The Simpsons and Sunset Riders. The latter of which I'm in the process of restoring.

If you ever need those pictures or anything else lemme know, I'll be watching. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the kind words guys. Things have definitely slowed down with this project mostly because I'm nearing the end and the last major thing is going to be artwork purchase and install. There are a few touch up items left yet. I do need to go grab a small piece of sheet metal or something similar to mount the test button to the coin vault. I've got the wires and the button ready to go for that. I'm hoping I have good success with changing out that resistor pack chip when the X-Men board from the guy at BYOAC arrives. If all goes well I'll be posting a screen shot of Homer in action thanks to his coin input working again. As for the art, I plan to contact Scott and mamemarquees in the next few days when he's back from his vacation and see what he says about enlarging the characters on his current Simpsons sideart. I'm also planning to just buy a repro marquee from Scott as well.

Well, I'm very confident the player 2 coin input problem has been solved. Josh and I spent some time looking at the schematic for the pcb and seeing what chips are involved with the coin switch circuit. After tracing it back, we found a pin on one chip that is shorted to ground and that pin is what eventually winds its way to player 2 coin on the edge connector. I'll be placing an order with MCM for the chip, some solder braid, and a spare tip for my iron while I'm at it.

have you checked already to make sure #2 coin switch wasnt replaced and wired incorrectly? dumb question im sure but the simple stiff is always worth a doubel check heh

If it's any constellation, our Simpsons Homer slot had issues too. We ended up replacing the whole mechanism.

Yep we're sure. I actually bought the board years ago when I was just into collecting boards for use on my supergun system (hence my user name hehe). I knew it had this coin up problem when I bought it, but since I didn't have a lot of people besides me using it I cheapened out and saved a few bucks buying this slightly faulty board. A visual inspection of the various components in that circuit has been done as well and Josh and I are very confident this chip replacement will fix it. I wanted to order the chip from MCM including a spare tip or two for my soldering iron but the chip is on back order for 2 weeks! I may just buy it from Mouser instead.

This looks fantastic! Awesome work.

What did you do to get your monitor so clean and new looking?

I need to do that to the WG monitor in my robocop machine. It has nice layer of dust on everything and I was planning on removing the monitor to try my first cap kit with it anyway.
I'm not sure what the best way was to clean every thing up. You did a fantastic job with your's.

Also, I have had had great experiences dealing with Scott (mamemarquees) and I've been happy with the stuff I've bought from him. Most recently, he's been very helpful with my Robocop side art. I['m sure he can help you out with your side art.

Thanks for the kind words. I used Simple Green and water to get the monitor so clean. Using the "stream" setting on the bottle helped plus using a toothbrush for those hard to reach areas.

Thanks for the info!
Were your monitor boards dirty/dusty too? I'm guessing you didn't use simple green on them.

I was going to get one of those compressed air cans (the ones to clean PCs) and try that to get my boards clean.

Actually I did use Simple Green on the monitor boards too. It sounds crazy, but I've done this to numerous monitors without any problems. I make sure to give them ample time to try before powering them up again. Some say that doing this is bad because some impurities in the water can cause problems, but I've been fine so far.

I emailed Scott at mamemarquees yesterday asking him about the side art and he said he can print the localarcade.com scan. Not only that, he's planning to adjust his art based off the localarcade.com scan. Looks like it's about time to order the side art. :)

Well I decided to bite the bullet and just place my order with MCM and wait for the IC to be back in stock. I still have some stuff I can do for Simpsons while waiting like hopefully ordering my side art.

I went to a local auction this past weekend and there were at least 5 Simpsons cabs with art and about the same number of Moo Mesa ones. I didn't buy any because I was out of cash. Keep up the good work.
