Simpsons lines through screen?

I put my simpsons board into my Jamma Cab one day and it started to smoke. I looked at the back of the board and some connections were touching in the area in the picture where all those black thin things are. Also there was some white residue on the board in this area from the problem. Now when I play the game there are lines through the screen. Any idea how to resolve this problem? Was hoping maybe desoldering and replacing some of those black things might do the job.

It's *really* hard to tell what's in that tiny picture, but it almost looks like SIP style video RAM - and if you have a fried one, that would explain the lines in the screen.

Here is another picture of a Simpsons board from the internet. The black things that are in rows near where it says "Test" are the ones I'm talking about. Where would I find replacements for these if one is bad? How do I determine which is bad other than by replacing them one by one?

I still can't make out exactly what those are, and I don't own a Simpsons board to look at. They still do look to me rather like RAM chips. There is some writing on them - what do they say?

As for determining which one is bad, first we have to determine what they really are. They could also be resistor packs...

Which connections were touching? Can you tell which part the smoke came from? Are there any burn marks on anything?

Those are either resistor packs or custom chips... I'll have to look at the Simpsons board I have here to see what it is.

A pic of the screen would help.

The legs of some of the black things were touching each other. There is white residue(burn mark) on the bottom of the board where some of the black things are.

That looks like you have a bad RAM or ROM... or toasted one of the graphics chips.

Push the test button and run the extra tests that aren't done during power on to see what it says.
