Seems like a common problem with MAME, but can't figure it out. I have ROM 25C says OK, but 3A, 3B, 7A, and 7B show up as bad. I held the test button and initialized EEPROMs, but still get the same error after it initializes.

Any suggestions on what to try or look for?

Thanks.

i have one that does the same thing. if it wont go green after initializing the roms then your daughter board is bad. i never fixed mine.

Ah..you have much to learn young Jedi...:)
When you get to the eprom screen, hold down F2, then F3. Just keep trying, it will work eventually.
There are a few voices missing from the game but it plays fine. It does get kinda boring but the novelty is kinda cool. There's even suppposed to be an easter egg with an extra character somewhere. Personally, I prefer Crusty, the wifey likes Wilie. Good luck!

Should have made it more clear. It's the actually PCB with CD ROM. Just when I was looking up errors on it, it showed a lot of the same problems with the MAME version of the game. Hoping I was going to be able to fix it, but it sounds like I shouldn't hold my breath.

Any other suggestions?

That trick allows the game to be played in mame. I have no idea if the real PCB has a reset button or something like that. Mame is usually very accurate, I bet if you keep trying, you will get it to work but I personally can't help you with the real PCB....good luck.

In MAME, if you end up with the init error, you often times have to delete the .nvram file to resolve the issue (changes from version to version in nvram handling.)

Much the same, try blanking the EEPROMS in a programmer, then try to re-init them?

Edit: It's a PIC. Ugh.

your option is to replace to 2 small caps on the daughter board. sometimes it fixes the problem, sometimes it doesnt do anything.

Yeah, the 2 caps were going to be the first thing I was going to check since that's about the only thing that isn't SMD. I'll check the ESR on them and cross my fingers. Thanks for the help on this.

The 330uf had a high esr, replaced it, but didn't fix the problem. Replaced the other cap and still no joy. PCB went back on the shelf for now.

I can verify that this works as well. Just hold down the test button to reflash.
