Ok starting tinkering a little on my Silverball Mania, and man can I say I don't envy the pinball peeps! These things are a lot of work! Anyhow I brought the backbox home and took it apart. I have yet to even plug it in but I figured I'd yank the boards first to make sure there's no loose screws or anything behind them.

The boards otherwise all look pretty good, even the MPU is in great shape with absolutely no acid damage. Only a couple solder joints needs touched up. Nothing looks baked per say, other than the molexes on the power supply.

One first question is...the MPU in here is a AS-2962-8, and the manual calls for a AS-2962-13. Is there any negligible difference? I can tell this was replaced at some point, it has a date of 1984 where everything else is dated 1980. There is a note in the manual that the dash denotes the game, so the dash number may just be what roms come installed on it.

Other than that the displays are kinda beat up and look like they've been touched up/repaired.

Gonna touch up the few solder points, and put everything back together for now. Wish I could've brought the whole thing home and set it up but I don't have any room anywhere.

Make sure you study this:

and do all the recommended upgrades. No doubt you'll need to replace connectors. With no battery damage to the MPU, surely you'll be able to go through this guide, count the number of flashes at startup, and get it figured out. Replace both the connector pins AND the header anywhere it's discolored and the housing when crispy.
