Silver Strike Live - Help!!!

Gumby510:
The cheapest power supply I could find was about $100. Do you have a link to a cheaper place?
The green light on the mobo lights up, which is why I thought the psu works. Which points would I check with my multimeter to confirm this?

Brtlkat:
Okay, I will try this when I get home! Also I removed the 6 pin connector that goes to the soft power switch (as seen in photo). Do I need to plug this back in

***ignore the paragraph below. I fixed this problem by finding a properly grounded outlet. No more tingling.***

On a side note, the metal nighthawk box has a slight charge to it. It tingles to the touch. Kinda like when you put a 9 volt battery on your tongue. Is this bad? Once I removed the 6 pin connector it reduced the charge on the box a little bit, but it's still there.

If you tried powering it on with the power switch pins on the mobo and did not work sounds like the soft power switch is out. Most likely the the power supply is good. This is why you have to jump these wires to turn the power supply on. If you test these kind of power supplies outside of the mobo/pc it will be dead and not turn on. This is why you jump the green and black wires, This is your on and off for these pc power supplies. So jump it with a small piece of wire or paper clip to make the connection to test. If all is good you can tie these wires together.

The tingle sounds like a ground issue or maybe something is touching the box

It's just a regular atx computer power supply. Just grab one from amazon should be less than 40$

Still not going to power the mobo on, if the power switch is out on the mobo. But like i said above easy to test.

So I removed the 24 pin connector and put a paper clip on the green and black and I heard a little pop noise. When I took the paper out and plugged the 24 pin back onto the mobo, the green led light did not come on like it used to.

So I bought a new atx psu, plugged it into the mobo. And now I'm back where I started. Green led on mobo comes on but fans don't. I tried shorting the 6 and 8 pins but still nothing.

Any other suggestions?

So I am having this exact same problem as well. I tested the power supply with a paper clip and it turns on. However when it is plugged into the motherboard it does not turn on. I have it plugged into the motherboard at the 20 pin molex and the 4 pin black and yellow molex.

I tried to do that soft boot or short boot or whatever it's called by touching a screw driver to the two power pins and nothing happens at all. Like absolutely nothing. Attached is a picture of my case and the pins I'm touching.

So is my motherboard just dead and I need to buy another one? Or is there something else I'm missing or can try?

Oh and this is silver strike 2007 I believe..
Don't know if that changes things.

That is the correct spot. Based on your picture you have the original motherboard. Do any of the capacitors on the motherboard look like the top is rounded up? There may be a capacitor on the board that has failed. Not sure what else would keep it from starting from the switch. If you remove the ram and unplug the drive and try it does anything happen?

All the caps look pretty good actually. I took out the ram and the hard drive and still no boot. And then I tried using a screw driver and paper clip to boot it. Is there a power switch I'm missing besides the one on the power supply?

Having a similar thing happening with my SSB 2007. Had to replace the power supply and the battery. I also took the hard drive out to image it. When i put it back together, I jumped pins 6 & 8 to get into the Bios to reset it. It only will run a couple of seconds and then turn back off. Not enough time to get into the Bios.

Anyone else had this issue?

Thanks,
David

I ended up purchasing a new motherboard on Ebay. It was surprisingly cheap. At first I was looking for silver strike motherboards on Ebay and they where a bit pricey but then i started looking for the model number of the motherboard instead and was able to get it super cheap because the seller was just selling old computer crap basically. He had no mention of silver strike or arcade stuff at all and I think that super help lower the price. Once I popped in the new motherboard it worked a 100 percent. Ohhh once I changed the hard drive port that was setup in the bios. Thanks to people on here who helped me figure out pretty much all of it.

Start with the simple stuff. If you have verified that the power supply and CMOS battery are new, then eliminate the video card, RAM, and hard drive as suspects. Boot the system with no video card (connect the monitor directly to the motherboard VGA port) and go into system setup using an attached keyboard, hitting F2 at boot. If you can remain in system setup for any length of time longer than a couple of seconds, then your motherboard setup is fine. If not, then you have an issue with RAM, CPU, or the actual motherboard itself.

For what it's worth, I ran across a motherboard that had the symptoms you describe. Boot for a second, then turned right off. I pitched the motherboard and swapped in a replacement.

I have replacement mobos if you need one.
