Silver Strike Live - Help!!!

Are these hard drives copyable?

Can I just image the hard drive onto a new drive? Preferably a SSD so I don't have to worry as much about HD failure in the future? I'd like to idiot proof this machine for myself in the future as well as retain an image for myself if I ever do need a full restore.

Yes fully clone able.

If your current drive was working, just making noise, you may be able to use it to make a backup with.

Whats the best program to use for backing up to ssd? Tried a few but get the message - no bootable device detected when booting the nighthawk.

Using a windows pc.

Aomei, easeus and image for windows (gave up on that pretty quickly)

Bigdenny. is this only so for ssds as i run Gt live and ssbx from the same nighthawk using a hard drive switcher?

Ok ssx will run on any sata port. use chdman or this HDDRawCopy1.10Portable

You may have a bad soft power switch on the mobo, By Bypassing the switch with the green/black wires connected on PS harness, This will allow the pc to boot up and game play normal..

Hey Brtlkat, I know this post was from 4 years ago but I'm having very similar problems and I could really use your help. I think I need to do the step you mentioned above, but I need clarification.

Which green/black wires? is the PS harness the 24 pin in the pictures I attached?

If the power supply is good to turn the computer on just jump the power with a screwdriver. There are two pins on the motherboard location depends on the board. It will be the two pins that the power switch usually plugs into. You can find these two pins on a nighthawk easily as the soft power plugs into them. On the old intel boards it's usually in the upper right hand corner of the board.

Are you talking about red 6 & 8 pins? If so, I've already tried that:/
I still only have the green led on the mother board turning on but the fans don't come on. I put a new CMOS battery in. I switched the jumper on the BIOS and shorted the red pins but nothing happened.

Check the motherboard manual to make sure your jumping the right two pins. Maybe a bad power supply.

Here is a pic of a motherboard it will be these two pins I circled.

Yea, I'm jumping the right ones. I don't have an extra power supply to switch it out with. Is there any tests I can do to see if it went bad?

Earlier in this thread it was mentioned that the soft power switch could go bad. And I think someone was saying that tying the black and green wires together from the 24 pin could fix that?

Honestly grab a multimeter and test the power supply. You might be missing something, number one rule in the game is to asap. Always start at power. These psu are just cheap units so when I get a new night hawk I always replace it and toss the old one.

Your first picture is the green by the black wires. You can use either one of the black (grd wires) next to the green, Plug connector in mobo and jump with a paper clip to see if it will power the mobo up. If batt was change you will have to hook a key board up and enter bios and set "after power fail set to ON"

The cheapest power supply I could find was about $100. Do you have a link to a cheaper place?
The green light on the mobo lights up, which is why I thought the psu works. Which points would I check with my multimeter to confirm this?

Okay, I will try this when I get home! Also I removed the 6 pin connector that goes to the soft power switch (as seen in photo). Do I need to plug this back in

***ignore the paragraph below. I fixed this problem by finding a properly grounded outlet. No more tingling.***

On a side note, the metal nighthawk box has a slight charge to it. It tingles to the touch. Kinda like when you put a 9 volt battery on your tongue. Is this bad? Once I removed the 6 pin connector it reduced the charge on the box a little bit, but it's still there.
