so as some may know i own a few small videogame stores , one were gamestop moved 500 feet from my store, well yes i have takken a huge hit in the new game market, well friday i get new pokemon in and im selling it ( the only way i can get a leg up on gamestop) well the gamestop store manager stops in and starts asking my doughter about it ,all the time acting like we don't know who he is , she calls me i gladly say sell it to him, knowing what he is trying to do, well my POS only gives you the total amount not what u are buying,( his dumb ass mistake) , he ask if he can return it for the black vers if his wife has already bought the white sure as long as its not opened , but tells him zero cash refunds, he buys goes down to his store( im guessing calling every corepate guy he can call to tell them what he has done) lol, i know they tell him its impossable to do anything cuz the POS only reads the total of what he has spent, 2 hours later he comes back trying to get his money back , lol no chance in hell , he leaves and tells her to have the owner call him,i do telling him i know who he is and what he was trying to do and as u leave the store there is a big sign no cash rerfunds, tells me he is going to call visa and say he did not approve the charge on his card, lol (well i video tape every transaction with audio ) telling him i have him talking about fraud on tape he hangs up on me ,lol Ron

good for you! stand up to the monopoly that is GS.. I hate em. and my newest issue of hate comes from there fucking website. Always says my store has EVERYTHING in stock, im like wtf? it has to be in the computer to say that, I called for 6 items the other day and said they were all available when you click find near by, guess what, they didnt have 1 of the 6. I got stupid excuses to oh someone must have printed out a stick on accident, or someone must have misplaced it, someone must have returned one.. get fucking real, it says it updates 8am every morning. all a bunch of bullshit

I'm slowly getting others who use to shop there for that same reason , last week they tell a guy that the 4 gig 360 will not go online , that he would have to buy a 250 gig to go online , so I sell him a 4 gig and 250 hd and had a very happy customer , Ron

I had a hard time following that (sorry!) - what was he trying to do exactly?

hes selling a new game before the release date. since hes a small indy shop he can fly under the radar with it but the game stop guy wanted to snitch him out. but his reciept machine doesnt pring the game titles, just how much you spent, so he has no proof. his rat out failed and now wants his money back that was spent on the game

i say good for you man. if there were indy shops around me id buy all my games there.

Haha - nice. I should have picked up on that, but don't pay attention to when teh pokemans come out.

There's a local game store around here, and a Game Stop... Sadly, I choose the game stop, because the local store is full of a bunch of idiots.

I never trade stuff, though (even when I worked at Game Crazy), unless I had more than one for some reason.

If you really want to piss them off, go wait in their store with cash for a customer with trades to come in. Offer to buy the trades for a little more (not much... why wouldn't they give it to you for $6 if they were going to get $5).

I almost got kicked out of a Game Stop for trying to buy a limited edition Mario Kart DS off a customer... the guy said it was "illegal." Which I happen to know it's not... just thye don't like it.

Yeah, Gamestop is terrible. The only reason I shopped there before was because my good friend used to be a manager at a very successful one around here and he let me use his discount. He wasn't that bad where he'd try to take advantage of customers or go to competitors and try to see what's up. It was just work to him and he liked that he could set his own hours. It's the pay and benefits that suck.

He did like the perks of going to annual conventions, getting free consoles, games, etc. And first dibs on any store POS signage that they need to throw out to make room for the new ones. He let me have this Zelda Phantom Hourglass stand-up when that was ready to go. I got a lot of funny looks when I carried it out of the mall. LOL.

But good for you for standing up to the big guns and keeping your business going. I wish we had more stores like yours around here. Gamestop has pretty much run them all out of business. They have locations like every 10-15 miles.

It sucks when your boss gets a bunch of free stuff and just turns around to trade it back in. Especially when it's stuff you really want, but couldn't afford at the time.

As for the standees... I have so much swag from games. It's amazing how much stuff comes in. I have posters, have had standees. I even managed to score a few of the demo units from when the store closed.

Yeah, he never did that. He's a nice guy, so he'd often share the wealth with his friends and workers. Games he did want, he's kept in his collections. He's glad he's not working there anymore though. Not a good company. He's in a corporate cubicle now, but making much more money and getting good benefits and he has "normal" hours. So he hasn't looked back.

So you have some old Nintendo signage and/or merchandise laying around you need to get rid of? I'll PM you my address. :D

That's it? shit, we have them every few blocks on some of the busier roads here. I hate GS with a passion. I'll only buy stuff from there if there's some exclusive preorder bonus I want. Even then, if the bonus is not in the case, I sometimes keep the game wrapped and bring it back later, then buy the game elsewhere. I just really don't want to give them money.

Well, I was being broad. It used to be worse. The mall nearby had two GS locations literally across from each other (one used to be EB and the other used to be Babbage's). The one that used to be Babbage's closed last year and merged with the other one. Then, there's a shopping center nearby that also had two GS locations across the street from each other and the same deal happened with those stores where one merged with the other. Even with these store closures/mergers, they seem to be just about everywhere. Like the Starbucks of video games.

Most of it isn't too old. I worked at Game Crazy from the end of 2005-2007, and again from 2008-2010.

I really should go through some stuff to get rid of... I'll be sure to let you know when I do :)

we have one in the mall, one right outside the mall, one across the street in another mall, and one 6 minutes up the road from the malls..

not to mention the mall my girlfriend shops at has 2.

That's the reason I hate them alone! I used to love Babbage store chains in the malls. I remember they used to have the monitors at the store fronts showcasing the latest games.... Both of the Babbages stores I used to frequent were bought up by Gamestop - I'm sorry that place bllllllllloooowwwwwsss!

Wasn't Funcoland also bought up by Gamestop?
