Hello all. I've been fighting a couple repairs for several weeks now and need some input. I have a silent scope fatal judgement that had the power supply go bad so I replaced it (the first power supply I installed blew up because I forgot to switch it to 230V...oops) Well now with the new power supply set properly the game boots but I'm getting the Hardware error -11. Do I need to re-program the RTC chip? (I don't know how to do that) Can I power up while holding the test switch and this will clear the error? Any suggestions appreciated. The information I have gathered so far seems a bit contradictory.

The tekken 5 issue I have been dealing with is that the game will boot but within 2 min of playing or just watching the demo screen the game will freeze. Sound will still work but graphics are frozen. I have made a fresh copy of the DVD and have replaced the DVD player. Both helped as the game was not booting at all before. All indications are the power supply is ok as I've tested the voltages and all seem to be in range. Are there test points on the logic that I can test for proper voltage to the board? Any other suggestions? Help a brother out...I need to get paid for these repairs!!

Thank you...great forum.

For the silent scope, first try adjusting the 5v up to 5.3v or so. If the error is still present, then yes, youll need to reprogram the RTC chip. Youll need an eeprom burner thats capable of it and a new chip ($15.15 from jameco http://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10001_10001_1392835_-1 ) Remove the old chip, install a socket, replace new chip (after programming correct version rom), boot up, do not change click time!!!! Calibrate gun and play :)

Thank you for that. I did start adjusting the Power supply up last night when I was working on it. I think I quit at about 5.2 @ the power supply itself. I was still only getting about 4.9 @ the logic board. Didn't dare go any further until I got more info on this. I'll give it a shot.

Thank you.

Its the RTC chip

Did more testing on Friday night and its the RTC chip. I know I need to find the correct version of the program the game is running but after that were can I download the program I need to burn the new chip? Or.....

Ninja are you still burning chips for anybody? Anyone else have chips they want to sell or burn for me? I don't believe we have the correct EPROM burner where I work. BTW I don't expect it done for free. I will be back at the location in a day or two to get the correct version.

Thank you.

Silent Scope RTC EPROM

I have the correct chip on the way to be programmed for my silent scope. My silent Scope is version 1.03. Were do I find this particular version to burn to my new chip? Can anyone send it to Me?

Thanks for all the help.

I have the files for it. I have 3 different versions. I know 1.20 is version b, so yours will be either the original or a. I'll drop over some info on burning it when I get to my desktop pc...

I need a new chipe for mine too, would you be interested in selling me one, mines also a 1.03 version

Why would you suggest adjusting the voltage to higher than the maximum specified in the datasheets for the majority of IC's on the board? Terrible advice.

There are 2 different m48t58y chips, one can operate at 4.7v, the other is 4.85v (from memory, id have to dig up both datasheets to confirm exact minimum voltages). If the current drops below that point prior to that chip in the circuit, then the chip wont operate, giving you the -11p error.

I need a new chipe for mine too, would you be interested in selling me one, mines also a 1.03 version

I can do that after we see which version of the m48t58y dump works for 1.03, then we dont have to take a 50/50 gamble shipping chips around.

I'm working on the board tonight. I'll let you all know which chip works for me. I won't be able to install the CPU back into the machine until this weekend though.

I did notice in one of the threads that a jumper had to be installed to program the chip from one pin to another on the chip. This jumper is only for programming and can be removed prior to installing?

Thank you.

Well I've installed the new chip and m48t58y.35d came up with the same -11P error. m48t58y-70pc1 revision.a However booted to "Security Code Error" sits there for a bit then re-boots. I found the post below earlier it sounds like I still have the wrong version?

The game needs this board. There is some security code programmed on one of the IC's. This determines the different versions. All the roms on the main board are identical except for the NVram. If the NV is programmed with the UA version and the comms pcb is a EA version the game will start up but will halt with a "Security check error'."

I'm not sure if I have UA or EA but by the sounds of it whatever I have, the chip is the opposite! Can anybody offer some clarification on this. Is there another file I can have my engineer burn to my NVRAM (I bought spares) and I will be good to go? I feel like I'm so close!.....Thanks to all for the help thus far.

this is hornet hardware, it is nearly identical with NWK-TR hardwares i have fixed.

afaik, the "hardware error -11" message only come up because of one thing, that is there's something wrong with security chip type 0038323 (located near that NVRAM chip). although this is valid for nwk-tr system, i believe this is also the case with hornet h/w.

in my case, when i put wrong nvram content (i.e. the checksum is wrong), it will said something like rtc self check error. but, if the checksum is correct (but version wrong), it still says error, but with another message to initialized it (to default) by pressing test button. dunno about hornet.

regards

Are you talking about pressing the test button on the logic board itself next to the RTC chip? If so, at what point do you press during the boot process...when the error is displayed? Or are you talking about test/service switch in the coin door? So I'm getting the "security code error" are you saying it should clear and reset to default just by pressing the switch or are you referring to the -11P Error because I believe I'm beyond that now. Thanks for your input.

If the hornet has the -11p or security error the test button method will not help. The NVRAm will have to be programmed.
Below is the method to flush a working NVRAM to defaults
Keep the test switch depressed and switch the machine on.
Keep the test button depressed until the screen will read, i'm not sure of the actual wording but "RTC initialized. press test button to set manually".
Release the test button and press again to go into test mode.
The settings that requires adjusting will be highlighted
Do not adjust the date and time, just accept and exit.
Do the scope and gun calibration.
After this is done game menu will appear at the bottom of the test menu list.
Go into game menu and the game should be OK.

I'll give that a try in a couple hours thank you. I'm still not quiet sure which button your referring to as the "test" button though. The button located on the logic board near the RTC chip? Or inside the coin door. Are they the same? I'm assuming the one on the board but clarify if you can.

Thank you.
