Hi;
I decided that I had a couple of hours to kill (ahhhh) and started troubleshooting a SSII project that I had acquired.

Anyway, I made almost all the connections, I say almost because there is one wire coming from the P/S that looks like it was connected to something as one of the contacts looks burnt but there are no obvious headers or leads to connect it to.
And there is one 5 pin header on the RFI shield that has nothing connected but there is no other wires left to connect to it??

I fire the game up and I get the HV crackle and neck glow but no display.
The 2 segment LED reads out the following:
rA
Pr
CH (pauses on this for about 45 sec)
SU
02 (pauses about 15 sec)
01 (pauses)
then quickly
28
4E
SA
45
67
74 and some other alphanumeric then blanks out for some time before starting the codes again, which are identical.....

Does anyone know what this might mean. I searched the threads but did not find anything like this.

I checked the manual but all it says is to call for service, the only problem is that I am the only service person for my games room! (and I am really underpaid)

Thanks
Jeff

Your first pic looks like 2 sections of cut a/c power cord with a couple connectors on it. Not too sure what I'm looking at there. First off, do you have the correct power supply in there? If you do, that'll make it a little bit easier, as your connections should be pretty straightforward. If it's not, then we need to figure out what was done, and go from there. If you could get a few more pics, that'd be a good place to start.

Hi;
Yes, the harness connects properly from the P/S to the game harness. I checked and have +5.05 vdc at the game board header connector.
I will try and get back in there for more pics to show you what I mean.

A better explanation is.....

The P/S fits perfectly in the game, like it belongs there, not a replacement/hack.

That one cable in the pic, comes out of the P/S, like an extra but as you can see, it looks factory.

It appears that it was connected to something, as one of the contacts are darkened, (over-current)....

There are no other non-connected headers on the RFI sheild with the exception if the 5 pin, (pic attached). The monitor has power so that cannot be the point of connection.

I checked the manual and cannot make out where (if anywhere) that line goes to.

The only other item might be the rifle, does that get it's own power connection?

I wish i knew what to do for you, but if you decide to not fix it, and sell the board, i may be interested in it. I may be able to use parts. Hope u get it working but if not, keep me in mind. -ken

Ken;
I really want to get this game going, it is in very good condition and the monitor is "new", there is not even the usual smoke/dust on the back of the CRT.
I have read the threads on the SSII and and at least it does not come up with that NVRAM error - I feel there is hope.
Jeff

OK, I have decided to save this game and will send the board out for repairbut before I do I just want to try and make sure that it will be worth the effort.
What I mean is that the monitor is good but I cannot verify the scope, there is no indicatioon that it comes up / powers up and I would hate to spend what could be several hundred dollars only to find out the gun is bad as well.
Is there any way to test the scope before I spend all that cash on the boardset?
Thanks
Jeff

Hi;
I have come back to the SSII as I need to make a decision regarding the repair of the PCB.

I took a video of the LED segment display during the "boot":

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_X6t3OVrOa8

If there is ANYONE that has the experience with this game could decipher the code and let me know were I stand, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks again
Jeff

Is there no one that can translate those error codes??

Is there supposed to be a memory card plugged in somewhere on the PCB?

Thanks
Jeff
