signs for teh Phet!

Yeah... I'd love to see how you did the EL WIRE... and WHERE you got the EL Wire.... and HOW MUCH of the EL Wire you got... and what the price was.

Thanks!

Specifics my friend... I need specifics.... how much of each color... did you solder the different colors together? Etc. We all know you wanna post the details... come on man.

BTB, this sign is for sale, $100 shipped. Comes painted, wired, 'plug n play' as they say. I bought 2 of them, and only need one. You get the nearly 4 foot tall sign, 25 feet of EL wire installed, a voltage converter with 7 molex connections and an AC adapter. The inverter does make a high frequency buzzing sound when powered, but I am told that this is normal. It sounds a lot like the old neon lighted signs do, so that makes it even more authentic. If your interested, PM me.

I bought my wire from glowhut. I bought 10 feet of pink with a wire lead and connector installed, 10 feet of blue with a wire lead and connector installed, and 3 feet each of red, yellow, green, white and purple, all with wire leads and connectors. I then purchased an AC inverter and AC adapter. They wired me up 7 molex connections for the sign. 6 letters, 1 border. All plug, no soldering. I drilled 2 holes in the bottom corner of each letter with a floating section, the 2 'A's, the 'D' and the 'R' and one hole in the channel of the floating section I then wired the EL wire through the first hole from the back of the sign, around the outline of the letter, then ran the el wire down through the second hole, up the back of the sign, and into the floating section where I finished off each letter. For the letters without floating sections, just one hole drilled, wire up from the back, trace the outline, cut the excess, reinstall the plastic cap. I used hot glue to secure the wire in place.

So each letter and the border go to the inverter rather than sequentially from letter to letter then to the inverter? Do you know if different colors can be "wired" together to run it sequentially to the inverter?

Sure they can be daisy-chained, but on my sign they all plug into the inverter separately, because I had them custom make it that way.

WOW! That really turned out nice!

Thank you. It took me about 2 hours of painting, running wire and hot-gluing. Total cost was about $100. I was really more interested in the process and experimenting with these materials together. Gives me a better idea of what can be accomplished with this stuff. So far, I am impressed.

Is the EL lights visible in semi-lighted situations (gameroom full of marquees lighting the place)?

Yes, but when the house lights are up, it definitely loses intensity. I have a dimmer in my gameroom and the sign looked bright when it was about half dimmed.

That turned out REALLY cool, Phet! Nicely done.

Animated in the future, or are you happy with it being still?
