That E.L. wire is interesting. What kind of power use does it have? Could a sign such as that run on batteries? I would hate to run dedicated outlets for signs, so it would be a necessity for me.

EL will run fine on batteries.
There are plenty of sites for this stuff but I have purchased from these guys in the past with great results.

Feel free Dave, Brett has the layout keyed into his CNC now so it would be a snap for him to crank out another set. I have been wanting to design a retro arcade sign based on something old, gritty and real for a long time, but nothing ever really jumped out at me. Then I found a pic of that old liquor sign in a search and it quickly and firmly grabbed me, much like Frizz grabs the closest flesh banana when playing 'Littlest Love Monkey' down at the Nampa NAMBLA Lodge's Reverse Sadie Hawkins dance. I'd love to see what you do with it color and lighting wise.
