Hello all I'm new to the forum. I just got a sigma quarter draw poker machine model B-9. When I turn it on the monitor is all 'blue snow', no sounds, and when I insert a quarter it drops in the outside tray.

I have unplugged all the cables and plugged them back in, replaced all the proms with a known good set, changed the coin mech, but still have "blue snow" on screen and no sound, coin drops to outside tray.

Any help appreciated

hurmm, easy yet harder.

that sounds like one I have worked on in the past.
your eproms are more than likely good.
your machine is probably ok as well.
your battery on the main board is probably dead.
and machine is now "scrambled" and needs a EPROM based reset.
while I used to be in the biz, I no longer am nor have all my stuff.

with a clear chip you should be able to reset and replace the eproms and
fire it up to running.

check ebay for clear chip.. Not sure where else to suggest as of now.

Thanks for the reply. I checked the battery voltage and it reads almost 2 dcv if I am reading it right. Battery should be 3.6.

Could you explain the clear chip, I don't know what to search for or how to use it. This is my first machine. A guy give me the proms and said they are a good working set. I just changed them and turned the machine on and have the same results before I changed them.

Thanks

Today I pulled both boards out, dusted everything off, wiped inside out. The big ribbon cable that goes from top board to bottom board was all kinked up so I straightened it out. Just messing around, any way I put it all back together and plugged it in and the bell starting ringing, lights flashing, the hold buttons lit up for the first time and the top attendant light was flashing. Those never lit up before. I opened the machine door while it was going nuts and the coin hopper was turning like it was stuck on a jack pot pay out.

The monitor was flashing but still didn't have a picture on it. So after letting it do that for about 2 minutes I unplugged the power cord and then plugged it back in and it is back to the way it was,,,,blue snow, no sound, hold lights not lit, attendant light out.

Kind of weird huh? I tested my battery on the board and it reads just under 2 volts. Do you think the battery being low would cause all this, or should the monitor display a screen regardless of the battery volts?

From the poker/slots I have worked on, the back up battery on the board needs to be at 3.6v not 2 not 2.5 not 3 ...3.6v. As stated above replace the battery and pickup a reset chip set off of ebay. You might luck out and just need a battery. They are available on line or depending on the size, Radio Schack or Batteries Pluss if your in hurry. but you will pay a premium, unsolder the battery and take it with you. If you have room on the board after it is plugged into the cabinet, I have used cordless phone batteries that have the wire leads soldered on them, from Walmart or Target that are at 3.6v, until I could order the right physical size battery.

Thanks for replies. I will get a battery for sure since it is old and try that.

There is a guy on ebay selling a reset chip for a different machine. I emailed him and asked him if he had any for a Sigma B-9 draw poker machine and he said it doesn't need a reset chip to clear the ram, with power off try shorting battery momentarily to clear ram. -then try turning the reset key on the side of machine.

Anyone have a manual for Sigma draw poker model B-9 or a link to download or view it?

I finally got around to replacing the battery on the board today but still have the same problems. Turned the reset key on, powered up but nothing on monitor except blue snow. I did here the speaker 'crack' one time but no picture.

Any ideas?

Been a while

Been a while.. So Im not sure but I think this one needed a clear chip, or RUN the clear process many times..

I was told there are no reset chips for this. I took the old battery out and it sat for at least a week without a battery on the board before I replaced it with a new one. Would that have cleared the memory?

Not normally

Not normally,
they are common to have a "watch dog" which wont allow data to all reset.
I would say try holding reset and master reset switches or short wires then turn on and hold until about 5 seconds after start up a couple of times..
