Thanks to Smalltownguy (Brad) and Deadpool, I finally obtained a Nintendo Cabaret cabinet to begin replicating. What started as 3 pieces of plywood (that have been sitting around my shop for 2 years) yesterday afternoon, is beginning to start looking like something. I have the major pieces cut and together for a test fit:

Now even though I have the major pieces cut, there are still quite a few interior pieces that need to be re-made. Coin box, monitor mounts, CP mounts, ect. If this all goes together smoothly, I may start making more of these for myself. Just thought I'd share.

Awesome! Please post pics if it's not too much trouble..would like the see this progress.

Oh for sure. I'll cut the top piece and the pieces for the base tonight. I am just debating on laminating, painting or going with vinyl. I also still need to pick up a Nintendo coin door. I am excited to finally see this come together.

I would go with a nice Cherry or Mahogany, and stain it. Brass hardware. Perhaps do a wine chiller behind the coin door? Also a leather cover on the joystick ball would be nice.

or if you want to go to the opposite end of the spectrum, clad the outside in deer skin, with a nut sack cover on the joystick.

Looks nice. Are you getting rid of your DK cocktail already?

Hellz no. This cabaret build is gonna be for fun. Next is a DKjr and Popeye cabaret. I am making reusable patterns to help speed this up. I have these extra Nintendo boards and parts sitting here, and I wanted to try something new. These will all come with lighted marquees.

He has mentioned making these for quite a while. I think the lighted marquees are really going to set them off.

Awesome!! I have been trying to pick up one of these cabs forever with no luck whatsoever. I want to build one from scratch too.

If you ever post measurements, etc. of the cab, I would appreciate it. Thanks for posting pics!

Yeah this is a cool cab and I've always wanted one. Man oh man are there a lot of little parts on the inside. Coin box, monitor mounts, monitor slides, 1/4 inch wooden bezel, PCB mounts, etc etc etc. There are also a couple of tricky cuts and rabbet joints that are used here and there. I wish I had a table saw, but so far, my skilsaw and hand router seem to be doing the trick.

Glad to help out! Please don't be afraid to tear into that cabinet all you want - I had planned on gutting the whole thing for the owner anyway, so you won't be hurting my feelings any. Rip everything out - that JAMMA'tized mess in there has gots to go.

Keep it as long as you need it - I let the owner know that his cabinet is helping our hobby restore/create greatness, and he's pretty pumped.

If this project comes out half as good as I've seen Shawn's other stuff come out it will be BITCHIN'.

Nice work....keep it up!

Thanks again Brad. Picked this up Friday and by Sunday night I am as far as the pics show. This has been a huge help. On a side note, he wants the cab back in one piece though I take it? I can't literally tear it apart, right? Do you want me to put all the guts in a box? His roof piece is loose, so I pounded it back tight, but those little brads won't offer much structural support. Is this the monitor I can get from you? If so I am gonna hose it down and cap it.

Does the monitor work? What type of monitor is it? If it's the same 14" Sanyo as I just finished rebuilding, you can keep it, wash it down and recap it. We'll work out a deal for it.

As far as the cabinet structure goes, I'll make a deal with you. If you can get it disassembled and reassembled with minimal damage, feel free to knock it apart. You already know the condition it's in - it could probably stand to be knocked apart and have all the rabbets and joints re-glued and re-assembled anyway, so you will be doing more good than harm in this case.

Besides, it will be a WHOLE lot easier for you to measure and repro the interior parts if you can take it apart anyway. Like I said, as long as I can give it back to the owner in similar condition (which I won't - I will make it better) he will be happy. So I've already underpromised and will overdeliver there.

Knock it apart. But take pics - better yet, a movie. Give Todd a run for his money. :D
