Yesterday afternoon I put some side art (purchased from QuarterArcade) on the side of my DK cabinet and this morning when I woke up 1/2 of the decal had peeled off. I went over it again with the vinyl squeegee applicator thing and it stuck back down but I'm pretty sure when I get home from work tonight it will be lifting up again. Did I get some bad side art? Anyone else have this problem? What can I do to fix it? I was thinking of using some 3M spray adhesive but how would I get it on there nice and neat without overspray on the side of the cab?

It went on really nice and really flat but when I peeled the white paper off of the top the decal was lifting off of the side which I thought was odd - it took twice as long to remove the white paper than it did to line up and apply the decal in the first place. Any ideas???

did you clean the side of the cabinet with denatured alcohol before applying the art? 99% of the time when art doesnt' stick like that it's due to oils and residues on the cabinet sides.

1. How did you prep the surface before application? Did you use a de-greaser last?

2. Did you use the Wet or Dry method of application?

3. Are you having the issue with one or both sides?

4. Have you contacted QuarterArcade about it yet?

Wow thanks guys for the responses. I'll try to provide as much detail as possible...

1. The surface is painted using Sherman-Williams latex acrylic paint.

2. I did ZERO surface prep (probably a huge mistake right there, eh?). I positioned the decal and just stuck it down using the squeegee.

3. I applied it dry.

4. I am having issues with both sides but one WAY more than the other. The side that looks the best is peeling about 1/4" to 1/2" around the edges. The other side is peeling as much as 3" all the way around.

5. I have not contacted QuarterArcade yet. I stuck it back down before leaving for work this morning and I wanted to see how it held up today.

After reading all of your responses I'm thinking it's probably my own fault... if so, what can I do to fix the problem? Can I de-grease/clean/apply denatured alcohol to the surface and re-apply the decal (without peeling it off entirely) or do I need to start over?

Thanks so much for the help - I was very careful with everything regarding this project and I was so disappointed when I woke up this morning...

There is a spray adhesive you can get at Home Depot or wherever called 3M77. Mask off the area you DON'T want glue - otherwise the overspray will have to be cleaned up later - then spray the adhesive onto your cab, then some onto the backside of your art. Wait about 30 seconds for it to "activate", then stick it down. Let it set for 30 minutres, and it'll never some off again - so make sure you put it back down smoothly...
