I just bought a nintendo vs cab in good shape. I moved it from the owners garage (it was moved out of their basement earlier that day) to the back of my van. The ride home was miserable. The machine smells like mold, mildew and some other almost eye watering stench. I moved it to the front porch and unloaded 3 full cans of lysol. I moved it into the house a few hours later and it over took the entire first floor. I have tried water and 5% vinegar, odor ban. I am about to water wash the inside and zinzer prime and oil base paint it black . The outer cab is ok. The monitor, cp and power brick and harness has the same odor. I need help getting the smell out of my working game.

I would take everything out, sand the inside, and them bleach the sin off that cab. This process has worked wonders for me in the past. You can also use polyurethane, too.

I'd sand it (wear a really good mask!!), use Concrobium Mold Control (Home Depot) and then use some kind of Febreeze-like smell remover, there was a perminating working version of it for cars I once used for the mold in my trunk and it worked awesome.

I hear bleech isn't nearly as effective at killing mold as its reputation, and there's all kinds of other problems it can cause including promoting rust on metals, Concrobium not only kills it but leaves a residue to keep it from coming back.

Thanks I will give it a try and see what happens. My first floor and basement now smell like the odorban and nasty cab. It is going to be in the seventies this weekend and will take it outside to work on it. Thanks again and chime in if anybody has dealt with this on a cab and what they used to clear it up.

Shellac based paint/primer worked for my cab. It had a pretty strong odor on it once you brought it inside the house, but the paint covered it up almost instantly.

Moldex, or bleach and water. Then sand it, sand it while it is somewhat wet from the bleach/water mix (helps keep the particles down). Then after sanding obvious spots or what you can reach give it some more moldex or bealch water. If that doesn't work paint it with an oil based paint.

I had a cab that had mildew in it and it smelt horrible. I did the moldex and sanding thing and it was find after that.

Have bought many machines from an op who stores them in a damp basement. Mold and mildew is everywhere. Here's what i do. 1) i store the machine in my dry garage for a while (1-2 weeks) to allow it to dry out. 2)shopvac every ounce of loose dirt and grime.
3)disassemble big pieces cp, back door, bezel, marquee. 4)clean everything with wesleys bleachwhite (automotive whitewall cleaner). The bleachwhite will remove and kill mildew, mold and remove stink and has never hurt any paint or graphics. spray lightly and remove with a paper towel. If you clean it with the bleachwhite and allow to dry good you can kill the smell. I am currently "airing out" a super offroad that was in a bar for 10years before it went to the damp basemant for about 6 months.
