I busted the lock on my SI to see if maybe it was a loose wire or something to see if I could get the game going.

But on the bottom of the cabinet was a note giving instructions to convert Space Invaders to "Earth Invaders"? And then 4 chips in an anti-static sleeve labeled "Earth Invaders".

What the hell is Earth Invaders. Cant find a reference to it anywhere.

Also on a sorta related topic. On the motherboard there are 8 chips slots on the left. The first 4 are blank and then the remainder say F G H I. Are these 4 supposed to be empty?

SI and SI Deluxe only use four EPROMS and like Orion said they end at H and work their way back. Is your board labeled Midway? Does it look like this?

As far as "Earth Invaders" it was probably just a boot or an 'upgrade' you could throw in a board. There are a gazillion SI boot out there.

Yeah it looks like that... and its original board. I may have typed the wrong info it was e f g h as above poster stated.

Yeah, that is a shot of my Taito board (midway modify). I figured it was close enough to determine wether or not he had a legit board.

If you are missing the SI ROMS, I just got a set from Elektron forge for $31 shipped.

ELutz got it. the 4 epoms are for a hack called ' Super Earth Invaders '..... game is more like SI Deluxe and regular invaders.... but is alot harder. dang bonus ships that come across the top from time to time fire at ya, but their missles go thru everything so no hiding behind the barriers.

EDIT: I just checked my ROM set......it's "Super Earth Invasion"

To the OP - if you have 4 roms you're good for normal SI. Coin it up and see if you get anything - if it sounds like its playing blind the monitor could have issues. You can connect a normal TV (with a video input) into it to test - its composite b&w so any tv with a normal video plug will do.

On the monitor you have to find the video wires on the plug (should prob be 5 pins at most...2 power (thicker wires), a ground, and 2 thinner wires (video).
