SI missile sound...only works on bench

Ok, this has me absolutely stumped. I've been through everything I think I can look at and then some.

Long story short...SI deluxe board...all sounds are fine and it seems to be working fine on the bench.

Take the boardset, I mean every board - mother, daughter, and power, into the house and plug the same exact boards into my cab. Missile sound doesn't work - its very brief and quiet, as in barely audible. All other sounds are fine.

Bring the boards back out to the bench...no problem - missile sound sounds fine and just as loud as all the others.

The bench rig is a real, cocktail wiring harness complete with real brick and real original analog power supply, even using a cocktail control panel. Only non-original parts the bench has is the monitor (a TV) and the speaker (using computer speaker).

The cab is an original upright, non-deluxe SI. As far as I've compared, the pinouts are identical, except the non-dlx cab is missing pins 12 and 13 off the larger plug that apparently go to the...monitor?? In addition, I believe the cab doesn't have a "monitor centering supply" that the bench transformer brick has.

What the hell is causing the missile sound to flake in the cab?!?!?!? I even tried clip leading on a different speaker...same thing.
 
cold solder joints? i remember having issues in mine with a couple sounds and reflowing the solder on every part of the power supply fixed it.
 
This is just a guess, but it sounds like you have a (lower than normal) voltage problem. Something isn't getting quite as much voltage as it should.

Have you measured the voltages on your test rig and on the cab?

Just a shot in the dark here but you might measure the outlet voltage, in the house vs bench.
 
I haven't measured the outlet voltage but thats a good point, although I will say both circuits (in the garage and in the house) are newer circuits. Now my bench brick is not grounded so I even went so far as to put a three prong adapter on the game to mimic the non-grounded aspect.

The ONLY difference I can find in the wiring or plugs between a DLX and non-dlx is pins 12 and 13 on the non-control panel plug of the daughterboard. Pin 12 goes to the monitor for some reason (maybe to turn it on?) and pin 13 gets grounded. That pin 13 is interesting because its paired with pin 4 which is the center tap off the brick..which technically is ground but it may not be "grounded" per se. That said...if the other sounds are working, there's no reason this one sound should stop working.

All DC voltages are within range at the boards - 12, 5, -5v, and again I'm using the same power supply board from my bench.

I also went to far as to check all the traces/foil for the 12v feeds for that one circuit, incase there was a cut or a rip somewhere. No dice but could be bad electrolytics on the 12v line of the daughterboard maybe.
 
That is an odd issue. I have no advise, but don't worry about those two additional wires in the harness Pin 12 and 13. Pin 13 is an earth ground, and pin 12 goes to the relay on a monitor set up for cocktail table use. The relay "flips" the yoke, so player 2 won't be looking at an upside-down image.

Yeah, I second the power concerns. Move the test bench inside to the same outlet as the cab, or move the cab out to the garage. Is is possible to move the power supply board from the test bench into the cab temporarily?
