He guys, looking to become a first time buyer of a Red and Blue Space Invaders upright.

I havn't been given much info on either cab as to what's there or not. So the question goes out, what should i look for.

These are project cabs and will need some work. What, i don't know. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Poke around a little on the net to see how much PCB repair/replacement costs. There are some repro pieces, but buying a lot of stuff adds up quick.

Consider how much money you may have do dump into it and decide if a Space Invaders Deluxe is worth that to you.

I started out with a $75 cabinet, but am several hundred into it now. I couldn't recoup my money by selling it, but I'm happy with keeping it.

You see them less and less anymore.

it is an ok game, but good for the iconic nostalgia factor. i will say, consider the fact that depending on what level/cost of repairs are needed, you probably will spend more to enjoy it than you can recoup if you decide to sell someday. i sold mine for $250 or something like that and it was like pulling teeth to get people to come look at it. that's the only game i've ever had trouble selling before. and it was in great condition with a nice monitor and new cpo.

It also really helps if you have experience working on electrical/electronic systems of some kind or at least mechanical experience or like tearing things apart. If you can provide pictures of the games you are looking at, we can tell you if everything is present (inside pics if possible as well).

My advice would be the following:

If you love tinkering around with electronics, go for it - as long as the price is right.

If you love playing Space Invaders more, pass and wait for a working machine.

Hey pookdolie....tinkering, eh sort of. Playing SI, yeah, owned it as a kid and played that sucka for ages. Was a sit down as opposed to stand up.
