I recently picked up a non-working Tempest--was playing blind when I got it. I fixed the monitor this morning, but was welcomed with the following when I fired it up:

As you can see, much of the menu screens render correctly. However, the tube/level is "shrunken" down into a very small area. I can make out some of the level's detail in person, but it's too bright to show up well in the linked videos...To me it almost looks like some later stage scaling operation is failing causing the tube/level to not expand to fit the view port.

I didn't get a chance to tinker with this at all yet...Does it seem like this would be an issue with the "math box" on the secondary board?

P.S. IIRC, the Tempest logo is supposed to render with a whole bunch of line segments connecting the center of the screen to the "Tempest" text...Is that correct? If so, that's also not rendering.

What do you get when you put the machine in self test?

Ya, getting an "M" for murder err mathbox error...Hopefully it's just a bad connection.

If it's not a bad connection are there any high failure rate components in that circuit?

Fixed

Didn't have a chance to fully get back into this until yesterday. I ended up touching up some cold solder joints, replacing a socket and swapping out one of transistor array ICs with another one from a spare aux. board I have. It works great now--thanks everyone.
