I am fairly new to Boston and I was wondering if there were any shows or auctions that are in the area. I remember in Orlando it seemed like there was one every three months or so, but I have yet to find anything here. Any Ideas?

There are auctions out here, but not as many as Florida by a long shot.

There is an annual auction at Betson in December. A few ops bring stuff they don't want to that auction. Everything at that auction works, for what it is worth. (I'd actually prefer an auction around here with a 'dead row', as I like repairing these things.)

Every now and then Superauctions breezes through town to pick over the carcass of a local arcade that has gone belly up. It's good entertainment value, but not a good place for deals or classics. Can you say shillfest?

I live in Connecticut, and from my experience, New England is amongst the worst areas in the country for finding deals or even sales on machines. For some reason there are very few private sellers getting rid of games in the area, but a whole lot of vendors looking to get top dollar for their used crap. I've been scouring eBay and Craigslist listings for years, and unless I'm willing to trek out to Upstate NY or Long Island, shipping cabinets is the only other option.

There are plenty of sellers trying to sell... just very few buyers willing to pay for properly repaired, restored, or bulletproofed games.

Everyone expects $100 games to fall into their laps... (and the recent $50 game sprees in western MA hasn't helped that... heh)

I've got plenty of spare games -- so does Walt, and quite a few other people. Pete posts games at fair prices all the time and doesn't get any interest.

I don't think it's so much that people are expecting to find something for nothing (Although it seems a lot of others around here don't have much trouble with that) so much as that no one wants to pay $1000 for a 4 Slot MVS:

or $1000 for a beat up NBA Jam:

or $800 for a one slot MVS with Bust a Move:

These are more or less a summary of the "deals" I find here in CT.

Are you serious? You must not be a member of the NEACF then:

...so block Automated from your ebay searches like the rest of us do...

Whee... you found one over priced vendor, and all you want to do is bitch about them instead of finding others?

The problem is that there aren't any others not within a 80 mile radius, and at least not on eBay and Craigslist, and I've been monitoring local eBay and Craigslist ads for years. I'm certainly glad to have found this place, and I'll check out the NEACF site earlier, but trust me on this, fair, honest sellers in this area are very few and far in between.

I've bought a half dozen games from CT in the past year, including 1 over the weekend. They're always cheaper in CT than MA....

What part of CT are you from??

Plenty of games pop up in CT...

Just like Mark said, we took a ride into CT last weekend and got a really nice classic.. In the last year, I've picked up: classic taitos, ataris, couple of williams, and some pins.. All in CT.. I live on the CT/MA line.. What games are you looking for? I've usually got 2-3 for sale at all times.. Especially lately.. as games are popping up so frequently.. Yeah, Automated Services is overpriced, I've ignored them since they started posting online..

I haven't bought a game on ebay in YEARS... CL and word of mouth is the way to go.. CL is getting much harder these days though :(

Let me know what your looking for.. I've got a few Op connections in the area.. Prolly can get you almost anything you want..

Ditto...

I live 20 minutes from Hartford as well. I don't think I ever found anything scanning ebay/cl that amounted to much. Plus any good deal is going to draw buyers like sharks on chum.

I've had a lot better luck posting on all the forums specific titles that I wanted, I always get responses. Just a few months ago I posted "wanted Space Shuttle pin" on several websites and got 3 responses within a few days. Just do "WTB" threads on klov, rgvac, etc, and you should get some replies.

btw, in the last 12 months I've sold : Punch-Out, Arkanoid D'Oh cocktail, APB, Moon Patrol, 3 SF Rushes, RoadBlasters, Star Wars, Galaxian jamma-ready cab, Karate Champ, and some others I'm sure I'm forgetting....

..and I'm selling a really nice Pac-Man now.
