Showed some restraint and DIDN'T buy a game today...

I went to look at an Indiana Jones today that MIGHT have been a good buy, but of course cell phone pics don't tell the real story. When I saw it in person I was disappointed - some bad playfield touchups and insert wear. Would have been quite the project to get it in the shape I'd be happy with...so - I was a tirekicker today, and ended up leaving empty handed. I felt a bit bad, cuz I already talked the guy down on the price over email....but even at the price I talked him down to - I didn't want it! At least he was cool about it. I hate making people feel like I wasted their time.

Yeah, I understand that feeling. I recently had to back out of buying a machine that I want due to transportation costs. I had the guy "on the line" for a couple of weeks. Hopefully he is able to find another buyer.

That is too bad about the IJ.

Its not wasting their time if the seller wasnt up front and honest about the pin in the first place. He really wasted your time, since you probably would not have gone out to look in the first place had you been aware of all the details up front.

Hold up, I don't want to portray the seller in a negative light. He's not a collector...just a guy who happened to end up w/ 1 machine. Didn't even know how to take the glass off...didn't do the touchups himself. I think people like ME can be scary to the non-collector...I could come off as insane nitpicking the stuff I'm specifically looking at. He was cool about it - said he felt like he learned something today. I didn't totally say "NO" ....I told him I'd think about it but I wasn't going to take it right now. Worse comes to worse, he Emails me w/ a lower price and then maybe it would be worth it to me to at least have it as a "players game" for a bit.

i love the waiting game..

if hes desperate, youll know soon enough and youll get it at a proper price

the word pinball equates with thousands of dollars to the generak public, but with the older machines its hard to convince joe bob that his worn out touched up bare spotted playfield pin isnt worth $4000...

at least this dude was cool about the whole thing..

A common thing that happens is that people look on Ebay, and see the outfits that list games for outrageous Buy It Now prices....without realizing that they NEVER sell for those prices. I might go look at a Popeye....but the seller says "these sell for $3000 on Ebay". She wants $1700. I want to offer $800 but she'll probably slap me...heh.

Good point. Sometimes I forget that most people that buy pins do so for play only, and dont really understand that they own something that is quickly becoming a piece of history. It is definitely unreasonable to expect everyone that owns a pin to have a good working knowledge of what to look for when buying / selling a machine.
