I have been interested in making a multi williams for a while. I am limited on space and can't think of a better MG to have. I am just starting the planning/design stage. I would really like to see how you guys have yours laid out and what you think is the best CP configuration. I know there are more than a few variations.

I love my MW! It's a Joust cab running a jrok board with Joust 2 side art colors. Here's my restoration thread on it: http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=182269

Here are a few pics:

Do you have to hack up the wiring in that joust to mw it?

Personally, the only williams game I care about is defender/stargate. I love moon patrol too but that is an Irem game.

This will be it when JROK re-releases the boards. Its running MAME right now. Have to make a hole for the second stick if I want to play Robotron on this one.

The one thing I don't like about the existing MW overlays is that the Reverse button spacing is set too far to accommodate the wider base of an 8 way joystick. I trimmed a little bit of the base on mine to keep the correct button position.

Wow, you guys have done some beautiful work.

Tighe, I will remove all of the original boards and wiring and store them. I will have a new CP and CPO made and then run the Jamma wiring and install a switcher.

So do I need to order up a 4 inch set of Wicos or do you guys use 3's?

Here is mine, it is a little nontraditional. Years ago I had one in a Defender cabinet running whatever that first jamma multiwilliams board was.

Of course real Robotron cabinets immediately started falling from the sky locally the day after I finished this.

The one thing I don't like about the existing MW overlays is that the Reverse button spacing is set too far to accommodate the wider base of an 8 way joystick. I trimmed a little bit of the base on mine to keep the correct button position.

I had to cut a hole in the corner of the joystick base on my first multiwilliams to accomodate the reverse button as well.

Here is the one I built using an empty Joust cab.

I am seriously thinking about repainting it using Joust stencils though.
Nerdy girl you don't have to remove the boards to put in a Jrok, unless you want to to it.

If you're particular about the color choices for your joysticks, you might be stuck with certain combinations. For example, I went with a 3.5 inch yellow and blue Wico since the light blue Wicos don't come in 3.5 inches (and the yellow Wicos don't come in 4 inches). You'll notice on Phet's that the light blue stick is a 4 inch and the yellow is a 3.5 inch. If you're not all that concerned with color, go with two 4 inch Wicos.

First one: in an old Kangaroo cabinet.

This ended up sold to a fellow collector with an Arcadeshop MW board in it.

Latest one: Robotron cabinet swappable control panels, with the JROK PCB

I will probably do another Joust one when the Vector Labs kit is available.
