Show off your rare/prototype video game stuff....

One of my many protos ;)

Holy shit Tim! That's cool!

I've never seen a Griffon before. It's not even in the list! That check one more off the list of Olympia's mine could be!

Check this out, there are a bunch of other Olympia cabs here:

http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=365556

Yours though, the side artwork looks typical of these Olympia cabs. Maybe converted to Dangar, but that side art is unknown Olympia game too?

Tim

The only thing I've ever owned that was a prototype was an Atari 2600 game cart called "Big Bird's Egg Catch"

It was about 2 times heavier than a normal cart but still the same size.

It had a white label with hand written name and Return to lab "B" or something like that on it.

I bought it for a dollar and sold it for $100 several years ago, so no pics.

I missed this thread when it was posted, but I love seeing proto stuff. All my proto (and 'sample' things) are pinball related - seeing as how I have very little actual video side of things, I don't have anything special. :(

But, I love seeing this stuff, and would be even more curious to hear stories behind them.

Yeah, for the longest time i thought it was Vega, but then we found Vega side art and a marquee which don't seem to match with mine. The bezel art inside is similar, but thats where it stops.

Atari proto carts are worth coin. especially if they have the lab label and even more so if they were unreleased games. Back when I was collecting 2600, 5200, coleco, intv, and 7800, I found a bunch of 2600 and 5200. the cool unreleased ones were 2600 tempest, and 3 UA Protos peladies, cat trax and funky fish.

Nice! I've been picking-up 5200 stuff for the last 10 years, but don't have any proto carts. I'm still missing a few released games, so PM if you have some you want to part with. Thanks.

When I sold the UA protos, I let them go for $2500 with the restriction that they be duplicated and made public(which is what the guys wanted to do). I am sure if I had went high bidder it would have gone for more and would have never been seen again. I think they made 50 copies of each and sold them to recoup their investment. They did follow through and make the rom data public.

Back when I sold them, they were completely unknown. Not even a hint they were in the pipeline for 2600 games. So it was nice save for some games that looked like garbage/copies.

If you want to talk about bonehead moves, I saw about 10 lab label 5200 carts at a local thrift store. I only bought the ones I did not already have. As for 5200 stuff, I don't have many spares. I would have to dig them out to check. I think I had extras of last Starfighter, track n field, and looney tunes, but I may have sold the extras off. Its been more than 10 years since I had a 5200 plugged in. Plus I would need to figure out whats fair to ask for them. Recently, I sold my 2600 malagai cart recently as someone was offering up $600 for one. I even dug out my pepsi invaders cart to take some pics of it. I will try to find time to look for the 5200 lab labels.

Since you dig 5200, I have a proto 5200 game unit. it was internally called system x. I also have a proto 2600 with wireless paddle/joystick controllers. it was going to be called the 2700 and looked like a mini 5200.

here is a pic of one

How this for a prototype? Very proto.

ROCKET RACER???!!!

Lots of good stuff posted already, but that is AWESOME! Thanks for posting. I knew/heard about it before, but never saw it on screen. SWEET!

Is it playable? Can you show us some game play?

Wow, that's awesome! Would love to see more, especially the gameplay!

Here's some more of the attract mode. It's the only thing working presently. Note the sprite error on the second screen, parts of the pylon are within the net. This is the way the data came to me and it is part of the hand assembled 2076 code. This is as far as the project got before it was put on hold. These screens each appear for about 3 seconds before changing to the next. The screen with the 'Space Shuttle' is animated; the ship starts out small and grows as it spins counter-clockwise 360 degrees.

It's kind of boring in B&W. So...
