Should it be required to leave asking/sold prices in FS threads?

^^^ best & only viable solution at the current moment ^^^

why? cuz once the OP gets quoted, there's absolutely nothing they can do
to ever get rid of their original quoted price! HAHAHAHA on you sellers out
there! NOW WHAT? pwn3d!

Sure about that? I can edit shit all day.

I volunteered to be a mod just so I can go back and look at original thread details. :)

(that, and the 9 weeks paid vacation)

Pretty much me too.

Not true. The OP of the FS thread can contact a forum Admin and ask to have posts containing the prices edited too. But that's a lot of work, and likely not to happen.

Can request all they want. We're not going to edit user B's info added in user B's post with a quote of user A (unless it is something malicious, etc...)

No.

This is may or may not be what we do. Please keep them coming. :D

Here's my suggestion: simply don't allow posts to be edited or deleted after five minutes or so. A bit of a buffer to re-read it and fix errors is fine, but for the most part once it's posted, make it stay posted. This should apply to all posts, not just for-sale posts... I find it odd that we can edit our posts here almost indefinitely after originally posting them.

I do think that a major component to the forum/community is the sharing of information, and that should include pricing information because pricing is a huge aspect of any collectible hobby/business. I see no viable reason to remove pricing info from for sale threads... if somebody wants to use a previous sale to offer you less than you want for something, all you have to do is say "no." If your price is fair you will get it, whether some old post for the same or similar item way cheaper exists or not.

I've had my quotes edited before. I think my most recent recollection is something of Fizgig's I quoted. It was pulled. But that might have fallen under the "drama" category and thus been pulled anyway.

um, by "nothing THEY can do", i meant the OP (the normal common user poster),
because it's obvious the powers that be - administrators, moderators, super mods
can do whatever they feel like.

Bottom line is there is nothing mods or anyone else can do to make people happy on stuff like this.

Exidy takes the time to do a price guide and gives it away for free... all people do is bitch and moan about that also.

That's because the price guide isn't really relevant any more.

It was updated a few days ago...

People just dont happen to agree with his prices (even though he has bought and sold more machines then 98% of the people on here).

Like I said everyone loves to complain but noone wants to do anything. Its easier just to sit on your ass and criticize what everyone else does.

There was a thread earlier about how a better price guide is needed. Tons of people agreed that it should be done of course none of these people stepped up to do it. lol.

I think the more references out there the better, I check the exidy guide also, however the guide doesn't list things like prices for pcbs and other parts, just prices for full machines. My point isn't that prices should stay listed on KLOV because KLOV prices are end all be all for what something is worth, but every reference point as to what something sold for is helpful.

I've never even seen the Exidy guide. If you've been doing this as long as some of us have, you just know the price. Before you argue newbie this or that, I don't really care so save your key strokes.

False.

This forum is much more then just buy/sell crap. Its a forum where people of all kinds
come together to share, help, and tell stories about their adventures in the wonderful
addicting hobby of vintage arcade collecting (and pinball). whether that be restorations,
tech support, monitors, mame (ugh), electronics, finding parts, history, community,
and just about any topic you can think of. is why this forum exists.

the other benefit to this forum is the ability to sell/buy/trade, but that alone is not the sole
reason for the activity of this place.

You are welcomed to return to my post and read all the big words this time :) You take away commerce you take away a huge part of the traffic of this forum, I never said that's all that happens here only that it would put a big dent in the traffic and usage.

If a few select sellers who mainly only sell (and don't contribute much else to the community) leave this forum, it wouldn't put a dent in the traffic.

Because it's already happened.

In general, I'm not in support of driving people away. But if you're going to be here, be helpful, be transparent, and don't be a dick. That's what makes it a community, and not a pure FS site like CL, ebay, etc. This place is a house, and you should be considerate of the other people who live here with you, and enable you to be a part of it.

Um. false. last time Exidy updated his online price guide was around a year ago (July 2nd, 2016).

And even if it was updated as of 2 days ago, a price guide is just a reference point.

Does it matter?

Point being for every person like Exidy who at least tries to do something there are 1000 other people who just sit around and bitch and tell them they are doing it wrong.

Its the internet disease.... everyone has an opinion and a critique but zero interest in actually doing anything themselves.

I love this topic, it comes up every 6 months and I haven't changed my behavior in for sale posts or changed my thoughts on it. I would prefer sellers not delete the prices and would be ok with the forum enforcing it. However, I don't stress about it either. I am not leaving the forum because of it either way.

B.S. sellers will go elsewhere more than they do now. I guess pins are selling for less $$ now and nobody sells on pinside anymore after they started enforcing it. Sellers go to where buyers are not where they have control of deleting asking prices. I list games on CL, Facebook and here and if that doesn't work Ebay. Why? because I want to the sell the damn thing and will market it to the most people till I get what I want for it.
Keeping the price hidden has nothing to do with it. People still sell on ebay (even people that bitch about it) and you can't delete the price there and pay donkey fees too boot. Lots of same sellers here sell on ebay as well so really a bit of hypocrisy there about this price deleting crap.

It costs nothing to sell or participate on this forum except to follow the rules. I am not worried about "loosing" sellers and nobody here should be either. If the powers that be think it would benefit the community then do it, if it doesn't work out, then undo it. This isn't life or death. is there a quote ... Not ever trying to make something better for fear of making it worse is path to mediocrity or something...

damn that was longer than I thought it would be and I haven't even had first beer yet

Maybe the buyers ask to remove the sold price so if they try to resell the next interested buyers can't use the "well i know you payed $xxx amount for it"
