Should it be required to leave asking/sold prices in FS threads?

The main reason people pull the prices is if you leave them it just means two years from now some dipshit is going to argue that it should be priced like the one that sold 2 years ago.

Things are worth whatever someone will pay for them at that given time.

The way prices have been going up I don't know that a price left 6 months ago would even be accurate.

Usually the people who complain the most about this kind of stuff have zero to do with the transaction and don't even own the machine in question. People just like to bitch on the internet.

I dont disagree with the concept - but again there are enough good sellers on here who for whatever reason remove the price. Do we want to drive them away from selling on here?

if this drives them away, then they wernt very seeded here in the first place. Their other option is to take it to ebay and pay fees instead of selling here for free. KLOV is one of the bigger/active arcade forums so I highly doubt they will choose to leave the audience here over having to leave a listing price.

By the way, this thread should be in the suggestion box, no?

No.

This is one of the excuses I have heard. IDK about everyone else here, but in my 4 years of selling here I have never had anyone contact me about a current item I was selling with a listed price, pointing me to a price it sold for x number of years ago saying that's what it worth. I would love to hear if this actually happens to people.

Your assumption. And I don't agree with it. I can't TELL you how many times I've researched the FS forums to gauge the price range for an item I have to sell. There are times when I come across a thread that is a near perfect match to what I have and guess what? The OP has removed the asking price. So annoying.

What am I left with? eBay completed auctions? That's worthwhile, right? *rolls eyes*

I have had it happen multiple times on here and elsewhere.

I feel if you make it a requirement some good sellers will go elsewhere and it will be a loss to the forums. People have the right to do what they want with their FS posts. Its their item and their sale this is simply a forum not an auction site.

Although I do agree be able to reference this information is helpful and I appreciate people who do leave prices in their posts.

I don't understand why you think that sellers would go elsewhere.

Well... of course not every single time but I can assure you not everyone who complains has a reason to other then they just enjoy it.

Its the same guys that freak out if someone doesnt list their location or post pics or some other listing infraction...

They immediately have to jump on the thread and demand information even though they have zero interest in the item for sale.

Ive not seen this happen through PM - but it happens within FS posts with the price police. I know several collectors who no longer sell on here and do their selling on facebook now. Just my observation

I dont think this I know some that have.

Look I think this is a good thing to have - But rules and restrictions so others can reference pricing I dont get

even if it does happen, considering it's a price from YEARS ago, the claim (regarding an old price when the market for games and parts was vastly different) holds no merit/weight.

no one goes to GM asking for a new Camaro for $10,000 because they sold for that years ago.

if that's a reason for removing prices, it's beyond weak

Why does it matter what someone else sold a game for at who knows what point in time? Who knows whether it was KLOV that sold it, or ebay, or a local sale and in all reality it's nobody's business what the details are in a person to person sale. If people choose to leave details up that's their choice, nobody else.

Pricing and valuation fluctuates so much, you can't rely on past sales here anyway (especially on rare games). Something as simple as pac man sells anywhere from 100 bucks to 2000 depending on the parties involved and the details, none of it sets some mysterious value in stone.

And please, don't use the whole 'you used klov to sell your game so you owe it to us' thing. That door swings both ways. People come here to look for games just as much as they come here to sell them. Take away that component of the forum and traffic drops dramatically.

I don't disagree with you, Shawn, but the fact that the Moderation staff here completely ignores most every suggestion made in the Suggestion Box is another matter entirely.

I've made several threads in the Suggestion Box over the past couple of years, all of which I felt REALLY needed to be addressed, and they fell on deaf ears.

I was simply stating a fact that the OP has started a discussion regarding topic that looks like it belongs in the suggestion box. I understand that if it gets moved, it will likely die.

Please explain your logic behind this point.

I just read all 4 of the threads you linked here. 2 of them were addressed by Tombo. I don't consider that "falling on deaf ears".

No harm in leaving a price up IMO. I don't get those who sell, whether on forum or on Facebook, who never indicate a price they have in mind and simply put it up with "make me an offer". Literally turns it into a hidden auction, where they just take whomever offers the most privately.

Just don't complain if I make an offer of $5.00 for your $200.00 item, as you said "make me an offer". :D

Please explain your logic behind this point.

It's very simple. This is a forum, it's not a for profit buying and selling service. As long as it is within the rules stated you can say or participate in anything you want, there are no fees or requirements to do so on a post by post basis. And, because it is a forum and forums get their traffic from participation which in turn if positive builds greater participation, when a 'classified ad' section for lack of a better description becomes popular the forum as a whole grows and becomes more active in turn benefitting the forum itself by default.

So, how you put a number on how much chatter happens in other areas of the forum due to buying and selling interests who knows but it is obvious that if you chase that component away this place dies in a hurry.

There's already an engine in place for people to donate and support it if they wish to do so, getting into the business of trying to police who sold what, when, and how to monetize those activities to the site is ill advised to say the least. And lastly i'll reiterate, a person to person transaction does not owe anyone else anything for any reason. You want that, go to a site that specializes in that like eBay (whoops, that's why you're selling here to start with right??)

False.

This forum is much more then just buy/sell crap. Its a forum where people of all kinds
come together to share, help, and tell stories about their adventures in the wonderful
addicting hobby of vintage arcade collecting (and pinball). whether that be restorations,
tech support, monitors, mame (ugh), electronics, finding parts, history, community,
and just about any topic you can think of. is why this forum exists.

the other benefit to this forum is the ability to sell/buy/trade, but that alone is not the sole
reason for the activity of this place.

Jeff Rothe disagrees with you ;)
