Should it be required to leave asking/sold prices in FS threads?

It appears this is happening a lot lately for no reason, and certain members always seem to do it on purpose. I know I for one look back at sold prices to get a gauge of the going rate of what the community is paying before posting things for sale, I also check ebay and other forums I am part of. I see no positive reason for people to be deleting sold prices. I know we don't have a ton of rules around here about what we can and can't do, but do feel this is important information.

Does anyone else feel it should be required to leave up your asking/sold price in the thread if you are going to be using the for sale section here?

I feel if you make it a requirement some good sellers will go elsewhere and it will be a loss to the forums. People have the right to do what they want with their FS posts. Its their item and their sale this is simply a forum not an auction site.

Although I do agree be able to reference this information is helpful and I appreciate people who do leave prices in their posts.

Although it is a great idea to leave the prices for future searches, it shouldn't be required. It the is at the posters discretion. Besides, who would enforce that? There are few mods and 100s of things posted daily.

"required"? no.

"leave pricing info in threads out of respect for/to help the community"? in my opinion, yes.

why do sellers remove sale info? that's left to conjecture.

can't say i believe 100% of the justifications given by sellers as to why they remove that info, but ... again ... conjecture ...

If sellers don't want to list them, that's their business.

Bizarre that people not involved in a transaction think they should have a say there.

The community can help with this initiative, even if the sellers don't want to play along. All anyone would need to do is quote the OP's first sale post in a later posting, or post their own reply with the asking price. That would allow the original asking price to remain known even if the OP removes it from their own post(s).

Of course, that would require quite a bit of work by many people to catch it all....

If people are using a public forum, to sell games publicly, for personal profit, the least they could do is leave the prices for historical reference and the benefit of the community, as the information is useful to many.

It's a simple courtesy, for the many hundreds or thousands of dollars you're making from the use of a public forum.

what he said

It is required in hundreds of forums. A for sale thread is considered a contract and in a lot of forums the seller is not allowed to edit the post at all .

Just saying :)

And of course as mentioned it is very helpful in determining current value of items.

^^^ best & only viable solution at the current moment ^^^

why? cuz once the OP gets quoted, there's absolutely nothing they can do
to ever get rid of their original quoted price! HAHAHAHA on you sellers out
there! NOW WHAT? pwn3d!

I always take a screen shot of purchases on rare things. That way there is no question in the future if changed. As suggested before you can always quote the initial post. I wouldn't do it for everything but if there is a rare item, it wouldn't hurt.

I volunteered to be a mod just so I can go back and look at original thread details. :)

(that, and the 9 weeks paid vacation)

Not true. The OP of the FS thread can contact a forum Admin and ask to have posts containing the prices edited too. But that's a lot of work, and likely not to happen.

I dont disagree with the concept - but again there are enough good sellers on here who for whatever reason remove the price. Do we want to drive them away from selling on here?
