seriously they are not my fucking employee if i reguired help i would hire them myself

You basically are when you go into a restaurant and sit down. Go make your own food if you can't toss a person that's serving you a few bucks. It's common decency. Oh wait, it would be inconvenient to make your own food? Then there you go, pay for the convenience!

its great you get defensive for servers but it isnt law it is personal choice i chose to tip if the service is amazing and they are hot its not my choice that the restaurant doesnt pay a full wage. i get paid shit yet no one tips me when i help them get off your high horse i dont tip oh well, you probably over tip thats your choice

Hey Josie did you tip the guys that gave you the firewood and even stacked it for you?
Or did you just look up at them and flash a smile .:D

I flashed them a smile to get them to do it... I offered them each a tip after they did it, but they all refused. I guess it was a good smile :p

The mailman gets nothing as they mess up our mail almost daily...

Another example of not repescting others opinions. It's either their way or you are wrong and an ass. God bless America.. like hell, God send Armaggedon!

I do overtip, and I don't think that's a negative thing. I'd rather go out less and give the guy a few bucks extra than be a dick and go out more.

One of the funniest things I've ever seen is when I went out to eat there was this HUGE group next to us, probably 20 people. They were pretty loud, and they were demanding of their server. After they got up to leave, the guy picking up the tab dropped $5 on the table and started to leave. Well, the manager was coming by to thank them and he looks down and says, "Are you only tipping the server $5?"

The guy responds and says, "Yeah, that's plenty. We were only one table."

The manager took the $5, stuffed it in the guy's shirt pocket, took the signed receipt and gave it back to him and said, "we're not charging you for your food, but you're also never allowed back."

I wanted to cheer.

Tipping isn't a matter of opinion. It's matter of accepted cultural practice in the United States. We tip here. Either learn to do it or be branded an ingrateful ass.

And I'm done with this argument. It's stupid if you can't see why tipping is anything but the proper thing to do. I understand if you get horrible service, but if you get satisfactory, good, or great service, you should tip.

End of story.

What a tool! I think that states it all. I'll have to check with a big seller on the forum. He talks about people offering him $20 shipped for a Huge CP that costs $40 just to ship. I know 1 person posting about tip everyone is good is the same person that Extreme low-balls price. Jar, your name states it all you live in a jar with the lid sealed tighly shut. You take your opinions and make it Gospel for all to live by. I think their was another person like that.. Hitler??

Yes, properly tipping is equivalent to genocide. You have mental problems, son.

How old are you? 13? 14? If you're a day over 20 I'll be shocked that you still hold those opinions on tipping unless you're severely socially inept.

EDIT:

And I've never low-balled anybody on here. I've never bought anything for less than what the seller was asking. So yeah, go ahead and ask around. Man, it took me 5 minutes to realize what you were trying to say because your grammar and punctuation were so poorly employed in your last statement.

Play me a violin.. I won't post what I typed, it is too far below the belt. Unlike you, I respected views that you should tip and others respected those who do not believe it is mandatory to tip. Just to make you happy in your sealed jar, If I sell anything to you or others that thrash out like this, If I get no tip, I'll package item with no packaging material and wedge it in a box that is obviously too small.. You can't bitch since you didn't tip. <-- don't even try to say that is different. You said tip end of story. Karma gonna bite you in the ass.. huh :)

Tipping is like the incentive for the server to do a good job. If I get my meal and my glass or bottle stays empty, or I have to chase down the server to pay,,,, no tip. If my glass or whatever gets filled before it's even empty, my check is delivered and picked up promptly,,,nice tip.
If your server goes out of the way like that and you don't leave a tip, you are an ungrateful cheap ass, USUALLY on the lower end of the socioeconomic ladder.
As for the delivery driver, it's door to door as far as I know. I don't think they are required to bring it in your house. Two NAVL drivers brought a game up 3 stairs and into my house when my girlfriend was the only one home and she tipped 20. Seems like the tip should fit the service to me.

According to pro mandatory tippers, you are not right in the head. I like how we don't agree with madatory tipping makes us a no tipper. Where have I stated I don't tip.. in fact I stated the opposite that is why I dine-in is so rare. I agree, if your waitress impressed the hell out of you, normal person would tip. If I get a waitress with I rather be fishing T-shirt and looking at you like you an inconvience, no tip nor would I ever tip for service like that. People just need to repect others views/opinions.. for this subject, that is all it is.. your view/opinion.

Kevin

I like how some renstraunts add pecentage of your bill to your bill for grautuality. WTF is that? Happened one time where I was going to leave a bigger tip than what was on the bill (server was great), but since the establishment took it upon themself, I left it at that. A

way off topic again, as usual. the question was whether or not to tip the delivery driver. Hes a semi driver, not UPS, his job is long distance driving from point a to point b, paid by the mile and usually a set fee for each drop (delivery), which consists of getting it off thier truck and on your property. if he sets it down in your driveway, hey, many thanks, see you next time. If he takes the time and makes the effort to get it where you want it, I usually slip them a twenty to buy thier lunch.

ever look on the back wall at Waffle House? the automatically add a 20% gratituaty on to all take out orders. I enjoy tipping for service I get, and not tipping when I dont get service, (or letting the tip reflect my opinion of the service) but I refuse to eat anywhere the tip is automatically added on. but back to my original question, charging a tip on take out?

I think that sums it up perfectly. If they guy goes above and beyond, I'll slip him a ten or twenty. If it's just a simple drop, he'll get a thank you.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm all set.

Do ME a favor and talk thru your other ass! Moron didn't read my wife works at Walmart?

Boo-hoo? (and LOL... "talk thru your other ass"? :D)

Moron never reads about I don't work and have Lupis.

Boo-hoo?

Moron never read any threads where I worked at Olive Garden before and other retail places. When I was a busser at Olive Garden, I got full pay since I would not switch from dish tank without keeping same pay. When waitresses went to give me my cut of tips (most of time more), I turned it down! I already get paid for working.

Boo-hoo AND you were/are a fucking moron?

I love how forum members can pass judgement on ppeople and know EVERYTHING about them without nothing shit or reading other threads from the past from that person. Now Einstien.. any other insight you have on me or my life?

Uh-huh. If you can't take the heat don't say stupid shit. And way to completely avoid refuting any of the points I made, you sure served me on that one. "I'm right because I'm right and am some kind of upstanding forum member. With Lupis." WTF?

PS way to turn to childish insults like "moron" and "Einstein" as well. Please misword a few more sentences, misspell a few more words, and/or make threats of physical violence in your next reply btw. That would simply make my day.

Not gonna get into whether tipping or not tipping at a restaurant has to be done, but the reality is if you go to one and don't tip or do what that group did, don't expect to get good service if you go back, and if they're smiling there's probably something in your food.

As far as NAVL goes, the couple of times I've had cabs delivered through them, a 20 managed to convince them that despite the company line about "insurance won't let us do any more than leave it ground level", getting it carefully into my apt where I wanted it was a good idea. Given that I don't have a good hand truck (just don't have enough games to justify the purchase at this point) and it's just me here, it was well worth it to me.

I'll chime in again, I've worked in bars and restaurants since 1988 so do the math. I've worked at places where I would ring 2K in 3.5 hours. Unless you were stripper level hot, had a deformatity, paid my student loan or were a douche I probably won't remember you. Waiters and waitresses don't spit in food, or at least they don't at the establishments I've worked at.

I will give you these small bits of advice:
to get better service at a bar come prepared, don't flag down a bartender and then have to ask your 12 man crew what they want

you don't have to overtip - seriously. If you step into the batters box be prepared to swing. When I worked at a place in downtown Springfield we were guaranteed to have 1,000 people walk through the door on bike night. If we could get everyone to tip $2 then the 5 bartenders walked with 400 each. If you don't know what you want it means the guy behind you gets frustrated and then he's less likely to leave a tip, and the bartender has done nothing wrong but attempt to take an order from you

don't order a milk based drink from a bar or nightclub unless it's attached to a restaurant, chances are they only get milk once a month

order a drink by its established name, you and your friends might think it's cool to rename drinks but I don't care if you and your friends call it the DUI the rest of the known world calls the drink Red Death

Bars are a for profit business, don't ask me to hook you up. And if a bartender makes you an extra strong drink go back to that guy. Don't be an ass and get the bartender who made you a strong drink in trouble. Giving alcohol away is stealing. I don't care what the bar pays for the bottle, the owner expects to make X amount of each bottle. If you raise a stink aboout not getting the amount of liquor in your drink that you get from Joe, you are putting Joe's job in jeopardy for looking out for you.

Don't be a douche. If you're at a college bar and it's 10 deep wherever you look, don't ask for 5 different martinis for your crew. Don't try to get into a debate over why the bar should stock your favorite beer. Most bars have about 20 choices, yes Rogue Dead Man Pale Ale is a great beer, but it ain't gonna sell like Sam Summer does. It doesn't make the owner money setting on the shelf for your weekly purchase of 1.

That is all, thank you for letting me rant.
